Yelapa Beach & Majauitas Snorkel Adventure

Looking for info on this excursion.  Do you snorkel from the boat or from the beach?  Is it difficult to get into and out of the boat?

You snorkel from a boat, not teh beach.  It is not easy to get in and out of the boat at Yalapa.  The boat brings you close to the shore and you wait for the waves to go out and jump.  It is a great excursion, though!

So you get in and out of the boat by ladder when snorkeling at Majauitas beach?  How about when stopping at Yelapa for lunch. Is there a dock there?  Thanks.

We were just on the Pride last week and did this...what a wonderful time ! Great tour group. We snorkeled from the boat..a little fishing boat. This boat was small enough to get in close enough to the area we snorkeled. There was no ladder, just slipped into the water from the side of the boat....getting back in, I think there might have been a ladder to help, yeah had to have a ladder...This little fishing boat was towed behind the motored sail boat that carried us for the trip from the Port to the snorkel site, then to Yelapa Beach. I can't say enough about this trip for us. It was wonderful. On our trip from the port to the snorkel site we saw whales, manta rays, dolphin..wow, what a sight. No dock at Yelapa Beach. Had to transfer to the small fishing boat, ride in while they 'held' the boat from washing back out in the waves while folks had to jump out of the boat into the waves hitting the beach. Same procedure going out back to the sail boat. Say hi to Pepe!

Thanks for the very informative answer. This excursion sounded like a little more than 4 60 year olds could handle so we changed to the Las Caletas excursion that my wife and I did in 2004. This will be the first cruise for the couple going with us and I am trying to make it a memorable trip with out too many challenges.  Thanks again for responding.

How is the weather on the Mexican Riviera cruise in February?  We are going on 2/14/2010 and the Hub & I are disagreeing on how warm it will be as to what to pack and what excursions we do.

Re: Yelapa Beach & Majauitas Snorkel Adventure

This year we made this cruise on March 8-15. We previously went the last week in February and the weather was nice both times.  Once it was cool in Long Beach (cloudy) but as you head south the air becomes warmer.  I would say both times the temperature was high 70's to low 80's.  Very pleasant and we wore shorts and t-shirts for all of our excursions.  So that's what I would bring along with comfortable shoes or sandals, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat.  Our favorite excursions were: "Las Caletas Beach Hideway" in Puerto Vallarta; "Shopping beach and lunch" in Mazatlan; and "Land's end boat, beach and shopping" in Cabo San Lucas.  In PV, you board a boat which takes you south along the coast to Las Caletas.  There are free drinks on board and a very nice buffet lunch when you arrive.  You then have several hours to lay on the beach, explore the area, go kayaking, or snorkeling (all included).  There is some entertainment on the boat ride back but I won't spoil the surprise.  Very Fun. In Mazatlan, you will take taxi's to the golden zone and watch a performance by the Paplanta flyers.  It is an interesting look into some native culture followed by free time to shop.  You end up at the Playa Mazatlan which is a beautiful hotel on the beach for a very nice lunch.  There you can swim in the pool, go out on the beach, or just relax. When you're ready to to back to the ship, the taxi ride back is included. In Cabo, you go out on a boat ride past the arches, lover's beach and back.  Then you board a motor coach to a beach resort for lunch on the beach. After that, you will be taken to an air conditioned mall to do some shopping. All of these excursions were very pleasant and relaxing.
