    Letting Carnival pick the cabins

Hi all. We are cruising at the end of November on the Fantasy. We opted for the rooms where carnival picks for you. I am now wondering if this was a good way to go. When do you find out what your cabin number is?  Will it be when you arrive at the  terminal?  I sure hope this wasnt a mistake. Thanks!

Re: Letting Carnival pick the cabins

The thing about booking a GTY is to pick a cabin category that you will be happy with in case there is no upgrade.  Most GTY cabins are assigned around 50 days out from the sailing.  So if you check your Reservation on Carnival's website, it will tell you the cabin number assigned.  If it has not been assigned, it will say TBA.

So far I have been lucky and have been upgraded the majority of the times.  But now that Carnival no longer allows the Military discount with GTY cabins, I will have to start booking assigned cabins.

Thank you for replying. I havent gotten any information yet and its still 53 days till we sail. As far as upgrades, what kind of upgrades are you talking about? We have booked the inside cabin TBA. What are the advantages of this? You mentioned you have previously done this. I realize now we may not get anything better than riviera, but what could we Possibly get? Would be nice to upgrade to oceanview or possibly even better.

    Thankssss,

    Tricia

Re: Letting Carnival pick the cabins

It all depends on the revenue model as to what upgrade you will receive. Each sailing is different depending on how many cabins are left in each category.  If there are very few IS cabins left, then they will upgrade you to an OV so that the IS cabin is available and most likely will sell before the ship sails.

The least you can receive is a 4A which is the minimum that you paid for.  Most of the time it is a one to two category upgrade.

Well they assigned the cabin today. We booked  an inside cabin TBA and the one they assigned us is category 5A #R8 which is an oceanview room with two portholes. I have never been in a cabin that far to the front of the ship. Next question is, lol Are rooms this far to the front of the ship ok? I have always been somewhat in the middle of the ships. Thanks again!

You might feel a little bit of up and down motion.  It really all depends on the seastate.  The cabins are basically all the same size.

     Hi Semper Fi

We went through a bad storm between Okinawa and Korea.  We had waves coming up through the front bridgework. The USS Frederick was the last LST in the US fleet.

We also did the let the cruise line pick the cabin thing (we originally chose interior) and we got upgraded to an ocean view with two portholes on the Riviera deck as well. I'm happy with that.  Will be our first cruise.  I don't get sea sick, so I should be fine if the boat starts rocking too much (which actually puts me to sleep), but hopefully the Gulf will be calm when we go for the 10/18/08 cruise.

    Happy cruising!!!

Hi Stacie, Just a thought for you. After getting our assignments, I saw the rates I paid for the inside guranteed room went down 50.00 for me and my husband. I called to ask if I would be getting a refund or if I would have an on board credit. They asked if i preferred an upgrade or the credit. I opted for an upgrade and they moved me to the empress deck with a full ocean view room. Have  a great time!

Re: Letting Carnival pick the cabins

Hi N.O. Lady.  Our rate stayed the same, so I don't think asking them to move us to a full picture window cabin would do any good (I think the ship is fully booked any way).  I'm happy with the two portholes.  My mother-in-law had the same type of cabin on this ship and liked it.  So, I'm gonna stick with it...won't be in there much any way (just to sleep and get dressed).  This is our first cruise.  For our next one, I will pick the cabin (hopefully will be able to afford a balcony cabin on the Triumph when it comes to New Orleans Cool.

    Happy Cruising!!!
