    S&S account on board

can you open your S&S account with a debit card ?

we do not do credit on anything and we only have our debit cards, I guess as long as you have the money in the account it will be ok but I am not sure ....

Yes, others have used debit cards as deposit on their S&S account.

if your debit card is only an atm card I do not think you can.... but if it is a check card like the visa check card you can use it.... I have done that.... because like you I do not have a reg credit card....

Yes, I read on the Carnival site, or in their paperwork somewhere, that debit cards that are backed by Visa or Mastercard will be accepted, but local bank cards will not.

Something else you  may want to look into. I have read that it is possible for a hold to be put on your card for several days after you return. And if you are like me, I use my card all the time and can't afford to have a hold put on it. I will be using cash on my S&S card. As a matter of fact I have done started putting money on my S&S card.

Thank you all for your replies, and the debit card has Visa on it so I guess it is a good card to use

    Thanks again

    Re: S&S account on board

    Hi Chiva,

The following Credit Cards are accepted as a form of deposit to open a Sail & Sign Account at the start of the cruise. There will be an initial hold placed on file as a deposit. During the cruise, additional holds will be added when the Sail & Sign Account exceeds the amount of deposit Carnival has on file. If a credit card is presented, this will reduce the amount available on the credit card for other purchases. If a debit/check-cashing card is presented, the hold will restrict the available cash in the checking account. Any remaining hold after the end of the cruise will automatically be released by the guest’s issuing bank within a time period determined by the bank.

The following credit cards are accepted:

    • Visa Card
    • MasterCard
    • Visa Gift Card / MasterCard Gift Card
    • An ATM/Debit Cashing Card may be used as long as it is a registered MasterCard or Visa Card.
    • The Discover Card
    • American Express Card
    • Diner’s Club
    • JCB Card

For guests wanting to use cash, they must deposit money at the Purser's Information Desk on the first day of the cruise to activate their Sign and Sail cards.

  • The following minimum deposits are recommended:
    • 2 - 4 day cruise: $100 per person
    • 5 - 8 day cruise: $200 per person
    • 9 day or longer: $350 per person
