    Debbie D,

Try Comfort Suites in La Porte, 1-281-842-9200 (different from the Comfort Inn).  Good luck!

I just booked a room in The Woodlands.  Probably about an hour or more away, but I was tired of calling and finding no vacancies.

I'm like you, I got tired of calling hotel after hotel.  We got in at the Hilton by Hobby Airport and it is about 20 minutes from the terminal.

Glad you found  a place too Txladybandit.  Hopefully this will be easier for the people cruising later on. I think they are planning to start going back out of Galveston around the 1st. of November, if possible.

We are also there.  Since we have to be on the first floor, we got a kingsize suite for $129 plus tax.  To me, this is very reasonable for good hotel chain.  It's not the Ritz, but it is not low class either.  According to the hotel, the transfer fee is $15/person, each way.  I recommend calling the hotel direct.  They can answer any questions that you may have,  and can tell you exactly what their inventory of rooms are for certain dates.
