Best of luck with the parking issue in Miami!  Just try to remember, ..... that the people that work for the parking authority really don't give a darn about you and your situation! Wasn't pleasant for us!       BUT!!!!  We still had a great time!

We recently (Feb 09) did the Destiny for 5 days and then did the Disney thing for three days. In my world, that is as good as it gets!  I see that you guys are doing the same thing, but going to Disney before hand!  My wife and I are jealous ............ have a great time!  Must be a NC thing!

Re: Handicapped Parking Free/Port of Miami

We just sailed on the Valor the 15th of Feb. and used the free handicapped parking.  My husband dropped me off at the terminal with our luggage and went to park.  I left him my driver's license and he had the placard.  Other than driving around for over a hour to find a lot with space, he had no problems.  In fact they were grateful he had the form filled out already (evidentily he got it at one lot that ended up being full).  Our placard is issued in Michigan and my license doesn't say anything about being handicapped but the placard has part of my license number on it.  Everything worked swell after he found a space!!

As I stated before, the parking issue was not good for us last year! Just make sure you have all the necessary paper work with you before you go and "TRY" to find a parking place.  Good luck with that!  As some other blogs have stated, there seems to be a form you need to fill out before you park. I can't help you there, but just using the handicap placard won't please the loving and pleasant people (yeah right) that work the parking booths. We live in NC and nothing else is required, but the port has many demands.  Just do your homework better than we did and enjoy your trip.

Sorry to read of your frustrations. There are 56 spaces dedicated to handicapped parking.  The requirements for the use of those comes from the state of Florida, the Port of Miami can't change that.

Thanks!  Even though we now live in NC, we used to live in Clearwater and I do understand about the requirements in Florida! I am just trying to give feed back as what to expect. I am normally a very positive person, and wasn't going to let some ignorant Port worker ruin my vacation. Just giving the facts! I will say that the Terminal in Miami has been greatly improved and is a much better facility that what was there previously! Just work on the Port of Miami's workers attitudes and you'll have a winner all the way around!

We lived in Cary for awhile but the people were so nice we had to move back here. Actually just to stay close to kids and grands.

I'm sure there are some crabby unhappy folks in NC, we just never met them.

My state doesn't indicate on drivers licenses' if the person is handicapped or not. Ha anyone tried using an SSDI letter?
