    Good seafood in Tampa?

Is there a Joe's crabshack or somewhere that has great crab in Tampa? My fiance love crab and we will be there the day before the cruise sets sail.

My husband and I really enjoyed Joe's crab shack when we were in Sanford FL.  I don't think there is one in Tampa. Maybe you can check these out through an online review or something.

Tampa [and the area] I don't recall as being known for "good seafood".  There's many good Cuban places, and several good Spanish restaurants -- particularly in Ybor City.

If you want to go a bit farther afield, there's lotsa good Greek around Tarpon Springs.

Closer, and just across the Gandy Bridge on 4th St in St Pete, is an old dive diner/bar a few blocks from my old stomping grounds: Babalu's.

The crab shack on Sligh is just that.  Doubt it's even open.  No Joe's in Tampa-I wish there was I love that place.  Check out what the theme is at Fresh Harvest at the Hard Rock Casino.  It's a very nice buffet and usually they have a very big seafood selection along with everything else.  Colonade on Bayshore is pretty good and you have a beautiful view on the water.

Don't go all the way to Tarpon Springs for Greek-just to go 7th Ave in Ybor City and hit Acropolis.  I promise you it's the best Greek Food you will ever have!

Your best bet for seafood in Tampa will probably be at Rocky Point.  There are several seafood places there and the location is fairly convenient (unless you're hitting it at rush-hour).

Rocky Point is along the bay just west of the airport along highway 60, which is the Courtney Campbell Causeway.  Past Rocky Point, the causeway heads across Tampa Bay to Clearwater and the beaches.

    There you will find:

Rusty Pelican Restaurant, 2425 N Rocky Point Dr

Landry's Seafood House, 7616 W Courtney Campbell Cswy

Crabby Bill's Beach Club, 7700 W Courtney Campbell Cswy

    Oystercatchers, 2900 Bayport Dr

    Crawdaddy's, 2500 Rocky Point Drive

Castaways, 7720 W Courtney Campbell Cswy

Bahama Breeze, 3045 N Rocky Point Dr E

and if all else fails, there's a Red Lobster at 6455 W Courtney Campbell Cswy.

Castaway on the causeway is ok. Colonade is popular but I dont know about this one.... on Bayshore blvd. which is worth seeing even if you don't eat at the resaurant.

Frenchy's Rockaway Grill (several other Frenchys restaurants) is a very cool laid back restaurant in Clearwater beach (live bands, right on beach) but I'm unsure about the crab situation.  If this location doesn't have crab, it's still awesome but I think Frenchys saltwater cafe has good crab.  Cooters is popular amongst locals and tourists.  AVOID the crabby bills on clearwater beach- not worth the time or money.   Landrys isn't anything special either.  Let me know if you have any Tampa questions- I'm no expert but am a native  : )

PS- Don't try Shells- all the locations just closed...

Red Lobster was torn down   : (

Bahama Breeze has nice atmosphere but is very overpriced and may not have crab legs

Oystercatchers is expensive and more of a quiet upscale place- crablegs? doubtful

Landrys- not worth the time.  not good food- opinion of many locals and visitors

    Hi IADadof2,

I've never been to or heard anything about the at on Rocky Point so I'm not sure.  I know that's a great location being right on the water.  If you have the chance to make it out to Clearwater beach and are looking for something really casual, all of the Frenchy's locations are pretty cool.  Frenchy's Rockaway Grill is right on the beach.  More of a laid back atmosphere- live bands at night sometimes and great she crab soup.  This place is loved by tourists and locals alike.  Let me know if you have any questions at all...like I said Im no expert but am a Tampa native.
