Hotel Traiano is the one to stay, it gets rave reviews although can get over booked and you maybe  moved to another equally as good hotel nearby. We stayed there in September 2007 before sailing on the Freedom. Mind you after the news earlier this week you may not be sailing on the 13th. We have just rebooked onto the Dream on 21st Sept after being bumped off the Liberty when the season was pulled

I agree with you Chief that the train is  an easy way to get around , but not with large amounts of luggage it gets pretty full. The Hotel Traiano offers airport pickup at much less than you quoted, it cost us only 90 euros last year.

I arranged a post cruise pick up by limo using an Italian agency I have used before and even that was only 150 euros.

We will be doing the same again next year after being bumped off the Liberty from Dover and are now booked on the Dream on 21st Sept

yea sometimes it is a bit tricky with a lot of luggage on the train but 90-150 euros is a lot of money, you can get to the port on a train for 45 euros for two.thats a hell of a saving you can buy drinks with or even a shore excursion, with the current conversion rate it adds up

Well we have booked the Traiano again for one night pre the Carnival Dream inaugral on 21st September. We are travelling with our best friends this time. they have never sailed before. We have an airport pick up for the 4 of us and is priced at 140 euros. So thats 35 euros each. The hotel does a free shuttle to the port as well.

Cant wait now only 238 days to go

    Jenny.

If you are staying in Rome you dont want the Traiano, its by the port in Civitavecchia, which is an hour away from Rome by train. We are only there for one night before the cruise. We have stayed previously in Rome at the Hotel Ponte Sisto which I would recommend. But there are literally hundreds of hotels to choose from in Rome itself. Most hotels will arrange airport pickup there are a number of websites that will do it . They are all pretty much the same price. The port is a long way by car  from the airport and Rome itself. Expect to pay around 110 euros for 2 people to take you to the port.

This is the Traiano website    http://www.hoteltraiano.com/ing/index.php

    Re: Hotels in Civitavecchia

i stayed at the canada hotel which is about 500mtrs from the train station i found it to be 1 of the best ive used in rome and a very good breakfast.dont be one of those idiots who gets a transfer to the port it will cost you an absolute fortune.catch the train from rome to the port it ends maybe 500mtrs from the port entrance and will cost 20euros for 2 people it takes roughly the same time as a car and its soooooo much cheaper than a transfer or taxi.all the train station people speak english so dont freak out about the language barrier.i dont speak italian but i made it there.i know some people on our cruise spent 150 euros on a transfer and they were pretty annoyed it cost 20 euros for 2.however when you leave the ship on your return do expect a delay as there usually a couple of ships at once and it fills up quick but theres more than 1 train.save your spending money and take the train thats my advice take it or leave it.dont recommend the train if your elderly though
