Hi Everyone,

My family and I are looking into a couple of cruises to the Canada/New England region. Friends of ours have told us that it is very cold in the summertime, but we are looking to cruise there in early September.

 Can anyone tell me how cold the weather really is??

 

Any responses are greatly appreciated.

Its not really cold.  Usually you will need a sweater or light jacket in the evening and early morning but can get away with light pants (even shorts) and a light shirt during the day.  I would prepare for wet weather just in case, so light rain gear would also be good.  If your friends think it is very cold in the summer they should try a winter vacation here. lol

This is a little late maybe, but, New England isn't all that much different than PA. Slight temperature difference, really. I have a friend that lives in Pittsburgh and I've gone to visit him in the fall and winter and there was very little difference to me. September is usually very nice, still warm, but the nights start getting cooler.

What about in August?  We're looking into doing a jetboat ride excursion and were wondering if it would be warm enough to wear swimsuits.  We're from central ny and would imagine it wouldn't be too much of a difference??

We were there a few years ago the end of July -- it was pretty cool in the morning and wore light jackets and shorts.  By early afternoon it had warmed up to the low 70's.  Was much warmer in Halifax than St. John too.  The air temps would probably be plenty warm but the water temps would probably be on the chilly side!  Go for it and have fun!!!

 

July/August are are warmest months up here in New England.  I actually live in New Hampshire and it does get quite warm.  Now when i say that I mean in the mid 70's and at night it will get down to 60 or a bit cooler.  My suggestion is bring a jacket and hope for sunny days.  Living in central NY it will be just about the same weather as you would expect at home

I'll be doing the Canada cruise on Aug 1. Is it warm enough to lay out in bathing suits during the day? If not, what do you do? Guess you can tell I've never cruised before...

I don't know what the temperature is going to be, but I am sure looking forward to laying out by the poolside with a light jacket on while I escape the oppressive heat of summer in Florida.  It is going to feel like winter, with temperatures in the low 70's!

We went on the Victory Sept 2008 to St Johns, Halifax out of New York .. This was our first cruise so we had nothing to compare it too. There are so many negative reviews if you let yourself get sucked into them your trip will be poopy before you even leave. We had a great time .. the ship was clean, no bad smells, big .. HUGE ..We stayed on Panorama Deck .. high up on the boat .. remember this if you are on a lower deck .. there are doors, end of the hall, on the panorama deck that lead to the front of the boat .. no one goes out there and it is a great place to stand when going out of New York if you want a great view of the city and Statue of Liberty without the crowd ... The weather was cool in Sept .. and cold at night. It was not unbearable but I would take a jacket. I am 29, husband .. we were some of the youngest people on this boat .. i saw a handful of children, since we don't have kids I have no idea about the kid activities .. we chose this cruise because we heard that it was not a typical "party boat" .. it wasn't .. there were a lot of old and when i say old i mean elderly people on this boat .. it was quite comical at times ... anyway it did not damper the fun .. the food was great .. Chocolate melting cake is a must for the dining room .. Buffet lines were long at lunch !!! the Pizzeria is open 24 hours and there are short order cooks for during the day also .. There is no shortage of food I assure you ... Excursions :: we did not book any thru Carnival .. in both St Johns and Halifax we went walking and exploring on our on and had a great time .. Halifax was our favorite .. We walked to the Citadel and there is a museum there that has a really neat Titanic exhibit with actual pieces of the ship that were recovered and lots of history about the boat .. we met some local people and ate at a restaurant called Blue Plate .. great fresh sea food ! We walked around in St johns too .. City Market is neat .. i would say if you prefer not to walk so much, book an excursion, but i loved that we just explored the city. The entertainment on the cruise was really good too .. there was an awesome Magician, and the nightly shows were always entertaining .. We had a inside room, worried about this at first but you spend so little time in the room, it was not an issue .. also not have a window made it perfect for sleeping .. the beds are VERY comfortable !!! we posted a video on You Tube : cruise pics - Carnival Victory Sept 2008 .. check it out and happy sailing!!!

 Where is the Jetboat ride excurtion there is none in Halifax, St John, Boston and Portland

The jet boat ride was in St. John -- it went towards the area of the Bay of Fundy.  Now this was a few years back when we took the Carnival cruise in July to Canada.  It may not be offered now but check under the excursions for St. John. 

 It is not there so probably not offered

hey cathy, the jet boat is there, in fact were going on it. when u get off the ship go towards the right of the dock and there is a "shack", the ride is at the reversing falls, now ive never been on this one, however the one in niagara falls is the best ride ive ever been on, you will get soaked so bring a change of clothing. they give u rain coats but thats just so its not so cold on the way back to the dock doing 60 mph, its priced right also. i think the website is "jetboatrides.com"if not google it,its there. 3more days, yeah...

 Is it througn Carnival or do you just arrive and purchace a ticket.

when u get off the ship you can book it, im telling ya the one in niagara falls was the best ive ever done, and ive been on a lot of trips.
