    Re: Elation 11/10/08

I'm going!!! It'll be my first cruise ever with the family.  I've been to Ensenada before, ate yummy $1 fresh oysters!!!  The ceviche on the street for $1 is yummy too. lots of bars and places to eat.  You can play pool for $2 an hour, I forget where it's at though.  Be careful of places that offer you $10 for all you can drink.  The drinks are way watered down with who knows what.  Everything is mixed with Tampico.  If someone blows a whistle, be careful, they'll shove drinks or jello shots down your mouth then expect you to pay.

    Anyone doing any shore excursions?

I've read that you should be cautious if you go to Lover's Beach in Cabo because they might leave you on the island.  Although it sounds really nice to go to.

My first too!  I'll be with my best friend, our kids (her son and my daughter are married) and some of our grands.  All our group have cruised before except me.  They tease me for being so excited but confess they are excited too.

I've been to Ensenada too but just for a day trip.  I think plans are to walk around for a little shopping and head back to the ship early.  We hope to snorkel in Cabo.  The youngest grand will be a couple of months shy of being old enough for an excursion, but maybe we can walk to a beach and hit the water from there.

What is ceviche?  I usually don't eat in Mexico ... planned to take some sandwiches from the ship.  But maybe I need to get brave and give something a try.  We don't drink alcohol, so no worries there.

Ceviche is a bunch of raw shrimp, oysters, and clams mixed in together and served on top of a tostada with some avocado on top.  They have a cart outside in town across from where the ship stops.

The raw oysters I ate there are soo yummy and fresh, I ate it at a restaurant on the corner with white tiles on the walls.

Also, for anyone who wants to buy beer, they're usually U.S. prices.  If you bring back the empty bottles to the store where you bought it from, they give you your CRV back, instant recycling =)

I'm bringing my snorkel gear and hopefully I can just jump in the beach and snorkel for free in Cabo, hopefully.

Are we allowed to take food from the ship? That would be awesome!

Hummm now I'm reading some conflicting advice about taking sandwiches off the ship.  May require more research.  I read that we could, then that we couldn't.  I also read that we can take factory-sealed food, so maybe a protein bar would be ok.  I'll let you know if I find out for sure.

We just booked our first cruise ever for 11/10!!  We have 2 girls 9 and 10.  They are so excited!!!  We just moved to socal from south carolina so we haven't even been to Mexico before!!  Can we use US currency??  I've been looking at the shore excursions because I really want to take our daughters snorkeling but I read a review that said Carnival shore excursions are a bit more expensive than most cruise lines.  Anyone have an opinion?  Is there a way to book your own tours??

    Hi Sharon,

I will be booking our Parasail adventure tonight.  No just walking along the beach for us. . . Nope. . . .we are going to sail 600 feet above the water and have the time of our lives.
