It just states a reasonable amount but I've heard people taking suitcases onboard.   We just got off the Elation on Saturday.  We had packed a small suitcase with Water, Pepsi and Root Beer.  I figured we could use the suitcase on the way home for all of our great buys we find while in port.  At the last minute as we were unloading the car in San Diego, we decided to leave the suitcase behind.  I'm glad we did.  They have water available on the Lido deck, at all bars and dining rooms.  We bought a child's fountain card for my daughter.  My son was happy with the free lemonade.  I actually ended up only buying three cokes during the whole cruise.  Sodas are 2.24 (1.95 + .29 gratuity added).  They also have a big water bottles available in your cabin for 4.89.  They also have coke, sprite and diet coke in your cabin if you wish to purchase.  We never did purchase the coke inside the cabin but did buy the water.

To us it was much more convienient to buy then to lug the luggage from the car.  Each person will need to determine how much they want to save money vs. hauling luggage.

Have fun...you will enjoy the Elation!

I LOST MY CRUISING VIRGINITY ON THE ELATION MYSELF, SHE WILL NOT LEAVE YOU UNSATISFIED! I DO SUGGEST TO BRING A H2O BOTTLE FOR EVERYDAY THAT YOUR GONE WHY PAY ALMOST $30 ON THE SAME H20 YOU CAN BRING WITH YOU FOR SEVEN DOLLARS. PLUS ITS A NECCESITY TO BRING IN MEXICO. YOU WILL SEE PEOPLE BRING ON 12 PACKS OF SODAS, I SAY TAKE EVERY SHORTCUT POSSIBLE TO SAVE MONEY TO SPEND ON THE FUN STUFF! IN PUERTO VALLARTA GRAB A TAXI AND ASK THE DRIVER TO TAKE YOU TO PARADISE. ITS AN AWSOME RESORT A FEW MINUTES AWAY FROM THE SHIP THAT YOU WILL LOVE. IN CABO GO TO CABO WABO, AND BUY A BOTTLE OF CABO WABO TEQUILLA. IN MAZATLAN BAR HOP!!!!!!! HAVE A GREAT TIME!

Hi rach, how many in your party? I'm traveling with my 19 yr old daughter, along with a friend and her 19 yr old daughter (so, party of 4). My daughter's and my first cruise, their second. Our friends buy a soda card because it is less hassle (can have a soda without going back to the room to get it), but my daughter and I don't drink soda at all, so it's not a concern. We'll probably bring a few bottles of water, as we usually do when we go anywhere. Otherwise, we'll drink iced tea and lemonade (for free).

Re: first time cruiser 9/1/08 elation

Just took this cruise & had a good time. We packed about 6 water bottles for 2 people & were fine. Be sure to check your luggage though. We also took 1 bottle of Vodka. Tap water, iced or hot tea, & juices are free, so we drank that most of the time. Mixing the vodka w/ free fruit punch & lemonade was great. The only drinks I paid for was 1 diet coke & vodka + 1 beer. I think as long as you check your luggage, it'll be fine, but try to wrap it smart so that it doesn't break because they don't handle the luggage gently. Def wrap it in plastic bag so your clothes don't get wet. You'll prob just drink the free drinks most of the time, but onshore it is nice to brink your water bottle. But, buying drinks on-shore are cheap.
