We will be on the cruise...  Got our Booking# today!  Going to work on getting our hotel for the night before with you guys... and setup our land excursions!   Just looking, there is much I'm intrested in doing in Cozumel... but not much that I'm intrested in doing in Progreso.  For those of you that have been... any suggestions?  Or, what could we do instead of doing a land excursion in Progreso?

Welcome aboard, I'm so glad you've booked with us!  I have never been on a shore excursion in Progresso, but I have booked the horse back ride on the beach, with a resort stay at the end of it for this next cruise.  They also have that same excursion without the horseback ride.

Other than a shore excursion I would suggest shopping.  And I think they have a couple of beaches there, and usually the best way to find them is to ask your taxi driver.  Or the driver of the shuttle that takes you from the port to the mainland. 

did you know Progresso has the longest dock in the world?  It is 6 miles, so they shuttle you from the dock to the mainland.  I didn't go the last time, so I don't know if they charge for that or not, but I seem to remember hearing it was tips only.

Hi, fellow cruisers!  I posted this on another post, but I'll post it here, too.  Galveston.com has video up today that states that the Hotel Galvez will be opening within the week!  Great news, huh?  They said they had very little damage, but lots of cleanup.  They are currently housing construction workers, with no gas, but they do have electricity.

I happened to check the Galveston website last night and saw the update.  This is great!!!  I was so excited.  I feel pretty certain that we will sail out of Galveston now.  I guess the only thing that could keep us from doing so would be if Carnival signed a "contract" on a short-tem basis with Houston to remain for a specified time.  I guess too, there could be a needed repair to the terminal that takes longer than planned.  But overall, the recovery effort is moving much quicker than anticipated. 

We don't have too much longer to go guys!!!!  I've got to start working on some kind of base tan so I don't burn as much in that Carribbean sun!!!  Don't forget to pack sunscreen everyone!   

Well, I got a call yesterday from the BW in Galveston that said they would be closed at least through Nov 10, so I made reservations (confirmed) at the Ramada Limited.

I still have my reservations at LaPorte BW, so we'll see!

Mostly I just wanted to bump this thread back to the top!

yay!! I can hardly wait only a month or so left. and wedding too. The countdown is on. Im ready for the wedding to be over so i can get to the boat. Do yall think we will be going out of Houston? and Does anyone know the differences between the mayan ruin excursions, I wanted to go to  Uxmal but i didnt know which one was better. Please help, first time cruisers here.

My travel agent called yesterday recommended booking a hotel in Houston.  He got a call from the Hotel Galvez that they wouldn't be ready by 11-10-08.  He assumes the other area hotels will be the same.  His guess is we will be leaving for Houston.  So I'm booking both.

I haven't been to the ruins but my sis-in-law has been to Chichen Itza.  It's the biggest ruin and the one most folks go to.  Uxmal is supposed to be more elegant and have the best hieroglyphics.  So we decided to book Uxmal.  Plus, it's the less crowded tour.

When I talked to Carnival earlier today, they said they still haven't heard, but his feeling was that we would probably be going out of Houston.  Still not official, tho.

I have a room booked at both places, yea, I know I've said that before!  But, doesn't hurt to be prepared.

I know we got our changed and saved alot, more money to spend in mexico. always better. Wonder why its dropping though. I guess they drop closer and closer to time of departure. Countdown is still on in my head. I have beach scene on my computer so i get to think about it everytime i look up.lol  Talk to you guys later

I spoke with Ramona (doodlebug) earlier this morning.....and I would like to ask you too.....

I'm trying to figure out how to get ours changed, get an upgrade and/or OBC.  I have left a voice mail with our travel agent.  If you don't mind me asking....did you book directly with Carnival or through a travel agent??  Did ya'll get an OBC or upgrade?? 

I know my TA will be calling me soon, and I just want to be prepared with lots of information, as I have heard that TA's could resist changes since it could affect their commissions. 

Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!!

Hey Lambersonk,  yeah i booked with Carnival online. I saw that the prices went down so i got the lower price one. I had to call Carnival and ask them directly to change it. i couldnt believe they would. I dont that much about Travel Agents though, probably true about the commission. Hope i helped a little. Just spoke with Hotel Galvez directly, reservation desks states that they will be open to the public on Nov. 2 !!! 

The website www.galveston.com has an updated article and lists hotels / restaurants that are currently open or will be by Nov. 1.  Hotel Galvez was listed, but I still called to confirm.  

Still keeping both reservations (Houston/Galveston) until we find out updated info on the cruise terminal.

Well, I've changed hotel's so many times, I lost count.  First, the BW in Galveston called & said they would not be reopened by 11/9, then, the BW in LaPorte emailed said they had a lot of damage and would not be reopened by 11/9.

So, now I'm at the Comfort Suites in LaPorte (which has free cruise parking, but unsecured) and at the Beachcomber Inn in Galveston, which also has free cruise parking.

If we leave from Houston, are you planning to leave your car at the hotel?  I asked Comfort Suites too and was told the same thing.  I can't decide if we should leave the car and take a taxi or just drive on to the terminal.....The reservations person said it was only 3-4 miles to the terminal.
