Costa Maya is being added back.  They were wiped out by one of the hurricanes a year and a half ago.

There is a pier that can hold two or maybe three boats and a cruise passenger-only pavillioin to walk around that has your standard shopping -- jewelry, souvenirs, t-shirts.  DI is there, so in case you have one of their cards you can get the charm.  Woo hoo.

There's a couple restaurants and bars around a pool and one of the bars has a swim-up option.

If you leave this passenger-only area, then you're out in real Mexico and you'll need a photo ID to get back in.  This was the only place I saw that was patroled by the Mexican military.  Their Navy, if I interpreted their uniforms correctly.  There's apparently a drug cartel nearby, or they're trying to keep one from showing up...

One mile south of the passenger-only pavillion is the village of Majahual, which I believe holds the patent on "sleepy".  It's all beach and beachfront relaxing.  They might film those Corona "million miles from the ordinary" commercials there.

The second longest barrier reef in the world [starts south of Belize and runs north along Yucatan] has Majahual right in the middle of it, and I hear the sknorkling and scubaing are tremendous.  I don't know for certain since I don't exactly do either one.  Kayaking was good; you're inside the reef and only have minor waves.

Two years ago when we were there I saw $20 massages on the beach [half hour?] and 5 beers for $4 [featuring - yuck - American beer].  You can rent a palayup or whatever they're called -- one of the open-sided grass huts on the beach complete with hammocks.  Small "restaurants" will serve you on the beach all day long in the shade they provide, and I've read that they're turning at least a significant section of what passed for their "road" into pedestrian-only thoroughfare.  At least while ships are there.

It's one of the places I'd go back to again, but I can imagine if you are one of the folks scheduled for Roatan and are getting diverted to Costa Maya you might be annoyed by it.

You can find Mexican beer in Cozumel for $1 pretty much of the time if you go about 3, 4 block off Melgar.  Maybe not even that.

I had a couple Sol beers last month.
