    Shore Excursion - Taku Lodge

If you have the opportunity to participate in this Shore Excursion, I would highly recommend it!  The "catch point" is a lovely short walk from the boat.  The 10 passanger float planes that are in use are extremely clean and very well maintained.  Everyone aboard gets a window seat, and one lucky person gets the "co-pilot" seat.  The pre-recorded narrative piped through the headphones was informative, though I personally would have preferred the viewpoint of the pilot.  Viewing the glaciers from the air gives you an entirely different perspective of them.  There are just not words that adequately depict the breathtaking hues of blue in the glaciers when viewed from above.  Once you get out to the lodge, there are some picturesque, well travelled trails through the woods that lead to a "sometimes" waterfall. (Bring your mosquito repellant!)  The aroma of the salmon grilling on the BBQ pit not only enticed us, but also drew some black bears (who seemed well versed in their role in the routine) who remained up a tree until we all retired to the indoor serving of the feast, at which point they climbed up onto the porch to lick the BBQ grill clean!  The food was very good, (the ginger cookies the best I've had - the recipe book is available in the gift shop) and the story of the lodge was quite entertaining.  The lodge itself is staffed by an enthusiastic and competent group of  adventerous young people, who seemed quite happy with their jobs, and delighted to host "company".  The return flight trip was no less awesome, and the pilots were wonderful at making sure that we had a smooth ride and an even smoother water landing.  All in all - I'd highly recommend this excursion.  Cost $290 per person.  Worth every penny.

sounds wonderful, again, if there is a time restraint, what is our best option?
