My husband and I were on a cruise that stopped in Dominica in June 2006. We actually did 2 different excursions. The first was a trip to the Emerald Pool (I can't remember the exact excursion). It was fun and absolutely gorgeous once we got there, but unfortunately much of the trip consisted of driving to and from the Emerald Pool. There was a little hiking involved but nothing too terrible; however, I would recommend sneakers as the terrain was rocky at points (especially near the pool itself). Plenty of opportunities for photo ops as Dominica (and the Emerald Pool) is absolutely breathtaking. The second excursion that we went on was the River Tubing and we had a blast! It was probably one of the most enjoyable things we did on our cruise (we stopped in Aruba, Barbados, and St. Thomas as well). I guess it really depends on what you're more interested in doing. You definitely get to see more of Dominica through the various Emerald Pool excursions and will have plenty of photo opportunities, but you'll spend a lot of time traveling; or you could do something like river tubing which is a total blast but you don't get to see as much of Dominica. My husband and I love to do both....so we chose to do both excursions as there was enough time to do so. Hopefully I was more helpful than confusing. Good luck deciding and have a blast on your cruise!!
