    shore activities

We are looking into one of the Dolphin activities.  Can anyone who has done this before recommend the best one in all the Western Carribbean ports (Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize and Roatan Honduras).  We are looking at one in Cozumel and there is another one in Roatan Honduras...any idea which is better?  I want the most interaction with the dolphins that I can get but I have a 7 and 9 year old so I know that they are not allowed to do a few of them.  Thanks!

Do it in Cozumel! They take you to Chankanaab National Park and its a wonderful place.

Your kids will be doing the dolphin encounter not the royal swim (they are too young)

I did this last year on the Disney cruise. My 2 kids were 6 (newly 6 - she had her b-day on the cruise) and 9 years old. THey LOVED the encounter and had a blast. Each of you will get time with the dolphin to kiss, pet, and shake hands.

THe water is not deep at all but they do make everyone put on lifejackets.

A few Pictures of the dolphin encounter and chankanaab are here:

PS~ SORRY I DONT KNOW WHY THE PICS WENT IN TWICE- I TRIED TO FIX IT

Have you ever done the dolphin swim in Nassau?

Thank you so much for this info.  I was worried that the "encounters" might not be hands on enough...sounds like it was!  You said you will "get time" with the dolphin.  Do you actually get to just hang out with the dolphin...if yes, how much time!!  I love animals and got a chance to do this at Discovery Cove next to Disney World but the kids weren't with me.  I can't wait for them to do this and I just want it to be perfect!  :)  Thanks again for your help!  :)

We were all still in a group setting but the trainer made sure that everyone in the group got some play time with the dolphin. Each person got to do the touching, rubbing, kissing, and such (photo ops) They do take pics of you do all these things and they even make a DVD of the encounter. The photos and DVD are expensive. YOu will be taken into a room after the encounter to view the DVD. It looked really cool but we didnt purchase it since DH was on the pier taking pics and my Mom was on the pier with her camcorder. I do wish I had purchased their DVD, my Mom's was full of wind sound... it was windy on the pier.

Also, I do sugest getting swim shoes for this excursion.
