    Ocho Rios Excursions

There are several excursions my family would like to do while in Jamaica.  Does anyone know how far Dolphin Cove is from the pier?

    Thanks

Before I rile anyone up, I know it's not ALL bad, but it was PRETTY bad.  Having just returned, let me just say, Ocho Rios was not the best port for being off the boat.  It seemed that most people had bad experiences there.  Drugs offered to you on the street or at the falls, vendors are EVERYWHERE you turn and they are quite annoying.  Those who enjoyed Ocho Rios seemed to have been the ones who spent the day at private resorts using those facilities.

If I can make a suggestion though, in the Caymans, the swimming with the stingrays was quite awesome.  Most of the tour was quite hurried, Hell (boring), the Turtle Farm(cool), then out to the Stingray bar.  Being out with them was worth trip and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Google dolphin cove and lots of info comes up. I even sent them an e-mail asking about pricing and they replied back right away. This should help you out. People did have post on, saying about swimming with the dolphins was not that good here. Hope this helps.

We did Dunns River Falls, Dolphin Cove and shopping. Yes the vendors are annoying but just say no. We were picked up at the ship and transported everywhere. Spent the remaining time in port at Margaritaville. Excellent drinks and a pool with slide

    cruisers,

Was the Dunns River Falls and Dolphin Cove worth the hassle?  I've heard horrible stories about Jamaica.  Did you feel safe????? Should I stay on the ship or be adventurous?

    Re: Ocho Rios Excursions

Returned yesterday from a 7 day Western Caribbean on the Triumph and we stopping at Ocho Rios Jamica. We did the Falls and Dolphin Cove "Beach Bash". Dunn River falls was definetly worth doing. Afterwards went to Dolphin Cove for a couple of hours. Other than seeing the dophins swim around, taking a dip in the ocean, and watching them lower the life boats from the Triumph into the water, Dolphin Cove was not much to visit. The vendors after the falls were annoying, but repeated NO's kept us from buying We did not feel threatened at all, but this was an excursion we booked onboard the ship, for whatever thats worh.

The couple at our dinner table got off the ship, hopped in a taxi and had the driver take them around to various spots around the area. They had a great time also, and also did not feel threatened. And neither them or my wife and I and another couple we hung around with were offered to buy drugs.

Thank you for sharing your info, I feel a lot better about going ashore in Jamaica.  Do you by any chance know of anyone that went on the Tulum excursion? I love history and think it would be fasinating but would like to know if its worth it. It sounds like it takes at least two hours just to get there.

    Re: Ocho Rios Excursions

No problem Dianne, if my sharing helps thats great!!

As for Tulum, my wife and I went back and forth on wether to go there or not. We actually did not decided until we were on the ship, the day before we got to Cozumel. We felt the same way, seemed like alot of travel time, and not being big history buffs, thought that'd be something for the NEXT trip to Cozumel. We did speak to one person that went to Tulum who did not feel it was worth doing, but I know others who have been who loved it.  So maybe it comes down to a coin toss!!!

    Have fun whatever you do!!

Wow! Thats a really strong opinion there. I'm sure the 1000+ other passengers who booked tours in Oco Rios didnt fel that way.

Question is: Why were you wandering aimlessly about when you were being offered the drugs and such? Any traveller knows that if you want to see what there is for a tourist to see, you book an excursion or hire a taxi or guide.

If you decide to roam around like you live there, you will be most likely be treated like someone who doesn't belong!

    Re: Ocho Rios Excursions

Excuse me, you weren't there, and most of the people we talked to and took exursions and were harrassed wherever they went, and they were all on exursions, as were we. We got off our exursion at its two stops and were harrassed,a dn the third time we were two feet out of the fence where you exit the cruise port. So there, the opinion was justified, we were not wandering around aimlessly. Jamiaca is not a nice place and is not safe. Would never go back.

     Hi, pmbarbara

Thanks for the comments on the stingrays. We're going in October and some of our group were a little nervous about the stingrays. Personally, I can't wait!!

    Hi, bar1068

When we went to Mexico last year with Carnival, my husband & daughter went to the Chichin Itza and they absolutely loved it and it was worth the travel time (this was in Progresso).

    Re: Ocho Rios Excursions

Hi, My husband and I stayed in Montego Bay, Jamaica 2 years ago for our honeymoon, we went to Ocho Rios for the day and went to the Dunn's River Falls, we had no problems at all, yes the vendors will try to sell you their stuff, but a simple "No Thank You" and they leave you alone. Just remember this is how they make their living. There is a restaurant associated with the falls just a few minutes down the road, if you get the chance eat there (it is a buffett) and is absolutely wonderful. The jerk chicken is amazing. We are taking our first cruise ever in April 2009 and are doing the western caribbean itinerary which includes Ocho Rios, we chose this itinerary mainly for that reason, we are taking our 4 kids  and will be doing the Dunn's River Falls excursion. Keep an open mind, smile and say no thank you and you will have a wonderful time there. Hope this helps!

    Re: Ocho Rios Excursions

We're going on the Triumph Oct 5 and one of the stops is Ocho Rios (sp?).  I have a question about the falls.  My brother in law reallllyyy wants to go to the top of the falls, but he's not a fan of water.  Lest wise actually being in water (other than showers).  I don't think he would want to actually climb the falls in order to get to the top.  Do any of the excursions allow you to go up the stairs instead of literally "climbing" the falls?

    Thank you.
