    Alaska anybody?

I'm getting ready to book an Alaskan Cruise. Does anybody have any suggestions? What is the best one North, South or Glacier Bay? One thing I would LOVE to see is the northern lights so I'm willing to go in Sept.  Exactly how cold is it up there?

We went in June.  Tempurature was 60 to 70's. We did have quite a bit of rain but still had some really nice days.  We went from Vancouver to Seward. I s definaely not a carribean cruise but it was very beautiful and so awesome.  The daylight was amazing, the flowers were also very big and beautiful due to all the daylight.  The most awsome thing we did was take a heliocpter rider over the glaiciers, hiked through the woods to the glacieers and took a train ride back. That was my most memorable excursion. Go have fun and enjoy the sights.

No , we went in June. we had probably 22 hours of daylight and I believe the Northern Lights are only visable during dark skys, but I have read that it is possible to see them between Late August and early April. So going in Sept you might see them.  We did see them at an Northern ight museum in Anchoage.  Good luck, I think it might be cooler in Sept.

Went the end of June 07 north bound Vancouver to Seward with my daughter(12).  It was a great itinerary and offered more opportunities than a round trip.  Stayed extra days going to Denali and up to Fairbanks.  What an awesome trip in an amazing state.  Inland it gets warmer as you go north (80f in Fairbanks) but that was around June 20 when above the Circle the sun does not set.  Since fall starts late September you should have cooler weather and a better chance for lights.  You can track possible auroral activity at The University of Alaska Fairbanks site http://www.gedds.alaska.edu/auroraforecast/  There was so much to see we had to put the lights at the top of our list for when we go back.  Have a safe grand adventure.

Awesome link to the Aurora Forecast.  We are leaving on the 24th of May for Anchorage (sailing on the 28th).  We booked one night in Fairbanks at the Chena Hot Springs in a vain attempt to get to see the lights.  I hope we get lucky.  If nothing else, we get to bathe in the Hot Spings and have an Ice Martini.  :-)

Hi, I went to Alaska first week of Sept last year and the only time we really got cold was in Skagway.  A light jacket is good.  Of course go prepared for rain. It rained on us in Juneau later in the evening.  The salmon are spawning this time of year and it was just awesome to watch.  In Ketchikan you can get up close and personal with all the salmon and watch people fishing, etc.  I want to do this trip again someday. Happy Sailing!!!!
