Hi to all.  We are also booked on this cruise and can't wait to set sail.  Just over 100 days now.  We'll be sailing with our 2 children and mom.  Been on the cruise critic site and hope it will start to pick up as the big day gets closer.  Just found this one today so it's our first post.  Hope to talk to all of you soon..

    Chris:

Hi Sharon, How are you, still excited I hope? We are and counting the days - our daughter got married at the end of July so we had all that to occupy us, but now we are back on the cruise count and the time just isn't going quickly enough!  We must all meet once on board it would be so nice to get together for a chat.

    Speak soon,  Chris

    Hi Chris,

Congratulations on your daughter's recent marriage and I hope the day was as beautiful as she hoped it would be!  I am sure it was both wonderful and bittersweet to watch the woman you remember as your little girl all grown up and getting married.  I had a very similar experience myself as I dropped my only child, my son Ryan off at college to begin his Freshman year.  I was both proud and a little sad as I realized he truly is not my little boy anymore ;)

Anyway, here we are less than 100 days away from the start of our cruise and that is enough to chase away any sadness or feelings of melancholy I might be having!!  I am just as excited (maybe even more excited) as I ever was at this point, and am right now kicking my coordination activities into high gear trying to ensure that all of my group members who have not cruised previous to this are prepared and aware of the things they should be doing now to set themselves up for the most relaxing and enjoyable cruise possible.

I can't wait to put faces to the wonderful people I've "met" here and over at Cruise Critic once we all board the ship.  Well, it won't be long now....so get ready Carribbean because here we come ;)

    Please stay in touch!

    Hi Eric n Lisa,

Welcome aboard!  Less than 100 days to go and I am almost beside myself with excitement!  It has been a few years since my last cruise and this one is more eagerly anticipated than any other b/c of all of the friends and family I have joining me for this one.

How old are your children?  There are several children sailing with my group including 3 ten year old boys, 1 eleven year old girl, 1 six year old girl, and 1 three year old girl.  I also have 4 teenaged boys (16,18, and 2x19) and one teenaged girl (19) sailing with us as well.

I am definitely looking forward to ACTUALLY meeting all of the great people I have met on this site and over at Cruise Critic once we're all aboard ship; and now I'll be looking forward to meeting you guys as well!

Take care of yourselves and before you know it, the day will be here ;)

Sharon, we have 2 kids, boy age 8 and girl age 16.  They are excited, but not as excited as us.  We just won another cruise that sets sail October 31st.  So we will do that one 10/31-11/3 and then come back for about 2 1/2 weeks and then go again... I just love cruising.  Counting down the days til November.

    Hello again, Sharon.

Nice to hear from you again.

I can understand your sadness at taking your son to college, but as you said you can be proud and think on, you will have more time to do your own thing and of course count the days like we all are.

Our daughters wedding was fantastic, the weather was fabulous, but it would have been even better if we could have gone off on our holiday instead of having to wait til November - never mind it will come soon enough Smile

    Take care and spk soon.

    Dear Splendor 11/21/08

I am one of many sailing on the 11/29/08 Splendor BUT I have a question for you all.  Are you able to book shore excursions from Carnival.com.  For the 11/29 cruise there is only one shore excursion for San Juan and like abut 8 for St. Thomas..0 for Dominican Republic and 0 for Nassau.  According to Carnival.com the shore excursions should be up to buy 120 days from the sail date.  Are you able to buy shore excursions?

    Hello CasinoQueen

My wife and I are on the 11/21 cruise and there isn't much offered for shore excursions at this time either. We did book and pay for a Nassau excursion last December and just last week Carnival emailed us that they were refunding our money due to 1300. I called our PVP and she said that code meant that they did not have a contract signed for the excursion. So after 8 months we have to try and book something else whenever they decide to post some. We're going to see what comes up in the next 30 days and if nothing looks interesting we will just do our own thing at each port.

This excursion thing is getting irritating.  Have heard "rumors" on Cruise Critic that our itinerary is being changed because the Dominican stop is being dropped.  I don't really care if we have another sea day if they would just put up the excursions for the other ports and let us book them so that we don't miss out.  I called Carnival excusion desk and they were non-committal about the change but said they were dealing with many itinerary changes and that was before the hurricanes started.  The man said they were working on those that were closest to sailing date first so who knows when they will tell us anything or let us book.  I'm still excited about the trip but since its a first cruise for my grandchildren, the excursions are important to me and I want to be sure they get to do the things they are excited about too.

I just made the final payment on our cruise and talked to the excursion department. I also was told that they are still working on the excursions and should have something within the next two weeks. They are not aware of the stop in the Dominican being changed at this time. New ship along with 3000 additional passengers possibly can cause some logistics for shore excursions. We're still excited also and are now starting to get things together fr the cruise! Paradise

I really don't want another sea day. The reason I choose this cruise was because of the 4 stops. With these particular 4 stops it was a good value for the price. For me the key cornerstone stop on this cruise  is the Dommician Republic. If for some reason the DR is replaced it must be replaced with another high quality stop (Costa Rica, Venezuela).     I am disapointed that more shore excursions are not posted for the rest of the stops  As far as the Man telling you on the phone that they are working on those that are the closest to sail date---You are on the second Splendor cruise out of  the United States.  There is a 4day leaving from Ft Lauderdale on  Nov. 17.   So if they were telling anyone anything it would be you. I understand that this is a new ship but that means Carnival is going to have to put extra Man power into setting up the details.  From today there are 7 cruises and then you get to sail YAHOO :)

I know this is the second cruise after repositioning but not the only ship that is going to Dominican.  The person who advised theirs was changed on Cruise Critic was on August cruise on the Destiny. So Splendor is not the only ship affected. The ports you mentioned are considered Western and our cruise is Eastern itinerary.  Well, I'll just be happy to be cruising.  I'm leaving tonight for London and a repositioning cruise so hope they have the excursions online by the time I get back.

We will be joining everyone on the 11/21/08 sailing.  Can't wait.  I'm disappointed that the Shore Excursions are not up yet.  I spoke to Carnival last week and they said that the contracts were not completed but they anticipate everything being up by the end of the month.  I hope they have the Atlantis Aquaventure, my son really wants to go to the Atlantis and use the slides.  Looking forward to a fun cruise.  Anyone see any updates on Grand Turk or the Dominican.  TIA

Hello, I am from Louisiana and will be cruising aboard the ms. Splendor on November 21st.I am looking forward to meeting you as I will be cruising SOLO as well. I can hardly wait. Historically, I have enjoyed cruising SOLO several times a year and I am so.... ready to get away for only the second time this year. I am so very ready to relax. I was looking at the shore excursions and it seems there are not many to choose from at this time. Does anyone know why? I wanted to parasail in St. Thomas, but was listed as an in tandem excursion! If this excursion reappears, anyone interested in going up?
