I currently live in Halifax and I might be able to answer some of your questions about the area.  Just let me know.

Well you can get your chips just about anywhere downtown....lots of variety stores.  As for your excursions.  The walk through history, the Valley Wine Vineyard.  Or there are a lot of  museums right in the harbour.....I have toured them myself and they are quite good. The Titanic  display is quite interesting.  The is a glass blowing shop with beautiful crystal, just up the street a bit is the Keith's brewery that you can tour..it is very popular.  everything can be found in a 1 to 2 block stretch up and down the street.  You can go on Theodore the tug boat , whale watching, lobster dinner and habour cruise.

As for booking through carnival.  I would just take a cab everything you want to book is there except for the vineyard. Just tell the driver  you want to go to  warf by the courthouse..(right next door).   You will find live entertainers, cute shops and CHIPS.

Have fun.  Anymore questions let me know.

How far of a walk is it to the shops from where the ship will dock?  You mentioned getting a taxi in your last post.......is it fairly easy to get a taxi?

    Thanks.........

There are shops all along the habour front, it depends on what you are looking for in particular. Walking would be fine lots to see and do.

I'm surprised there isn't an excursion to Oak Island.  Or has the furor died down a bit, and everyone concluded that Blackbeard never buried his treasure there?

My DW and I are travelling on the Victory last week in August. Have tentatively booked an excursion thru Carnival to Peggy's Cove including a Lobster Lunch, etc. Any other suggestions in lieu of this trip. I understand that Peggy's Cove is one of the top places to see in Halifax or is it overrated ?

     Hi,

No , Peggy's Cove is a beautiful place and alot of the local artists paint seascapes......I just picked up a set of 5 paintings last night ......great deals.  You are probably better off going straight to the pier and booking there rather than on the ship you will save a lot I suspect.   You can also book a 11/2 hr cruise on a tall ship or have a <Murphy's dinner cruise> There is lots of local flavour.  Alexanders Kieths brewery is a popular tour and so is the island hopper (craft goes on land and sea)..............Do not go into the water or get wet........in the halifax harbour .........I will just say raw sewage....!  Tourist do the silliest things and we locals laugh.

    Hi crash3x,

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post. I have been reading your advice and with it can better plan our brief time in Canada. We want to see the Titanic artifacts and anything historical. I did want to ask you if there is a church that is easy to get to. We want to renew our wedding vows since it is our five year anniversary. We are traveling on the Aug. 9th cruise. Thanks again for posting! Michele and Henning from NY :)

    Michele and Henning,

I just got internet back today cause I moved.  I wish I would have seen this post sooner. I was staying in a lovely hotel in downtown Hlfx and would have been able to look at the names of some of the churches downtown.  I know there are some on SpringGarden Rd which is not far at all and they have a lovely old European look to them, maybe historical I am not sure.  I am sure you can mapquest or google search for some. It sounds like a lovely idea to renew your vows.  I just celebrated 21 yrs and suggested that to my hubby.  He said he married me once and thats enough.......lol.

Thanks for the advice. I'll start googling! Downtown seems like a good idea...I read that there are many historical buildings and hopefullly churches. I told my husband what you said about your hubby's response about vows. He is still laughing!

I was wondering if there was anywhere near where we will be docking (on Oct. 2nd) that my mom and I could get crumpets...we love them but find them hard to locate here in the States?

    Hello.

Is there a cheap way to get to Peggy's Cove from the ship.  I would rent a car but I don't have a credit card.  Thanks!
