My wife and I went on our honeymoon cruise in June,2006. We went to the ruins at Chechen Itza. I wish we were still there! So much to see! So much history to learn! So much ancient culture to understand...I took so many pictures. I had read about the location for years and the site did not disappoint. The bus drive was a little long and the driver has aspirations of becoming a NASCAR driver....but it was so worth it.You will enjoy it!

If you have the opportunity to go to Chitzen Itza definately take it.  The next trip to Mexico I take will definately include a couple of days there to see as much of it as possible.  It truly deserves it's status as one of the wonders of the world.

    Progreso: Progreso Dec 07

         Caves and Caverns Tour Sept07

         Uxmal/Progreso Sept 2004

There is the company that runs the "free" shuttles from the cruise ships to dry land. They also offer tours, many of which you can join at the last minute:

I just returned from Progreso (cruise april 19th).  I used http://www.autoprogreso.com/home.html.htm.  I actually just got off at the port and talked to the travel guy.  It was great $45 and we got to go shopping, to some ruins, and this great beach resort.  We went to this beach resort that included all food and drinks (anything you want to drink).  It was great.  SO relaxing to sit on the beach or by one of their really nice pools and have drinks brought to you.  I would recommend this to anyone !!!!!

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.

Hello, I just returned yesterday from the Western Caribbean tour on the Legend. Do you snorkel much? I have...in Hawaii and in San Diego too. Snorkeling in the Caribbean was terribly disappointing (Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize, Roatan) Roatan was "good" snorkeling but nothing compared to Hawaii. Much of the coral is dead. So, very very few fish. If you've never snorkeled before, it's fun but you won't know what you're missing. Hawaii was fabulous in the 90s. Just go back. Also, do NOT take the Atlantis. Expensive - 99$ and nothing to see. COmplete waste of money and time.

I am not sure which excursion you are asking about for your children ages 7 and 13 -- but we went to Chitzen Itza from Progresso -- it is a shorter drive from here than from other ports.  It was one of the best things we could have done with our children.  First it is a GREAT excursion.  Our boys were 5, 7 and 9 when we went.   They loved climbing the ruins and the adventure involved in it all.  More than that, every year since -- in their social studies classes -- there is ALWAYS a picture of Chitzen Itza in their school text books -- One year it was actually ON THE COVER of their social studies book.   They always marvel -- I CLIMBED THAT -- it was beautiful!  The stairs were steep... etc.  What a learning adventure that as made (at least some of) their school work come alive!!

    zydecocruiser,

You seem to be the one to know.

We are cruising to Progresso at the end of June and have signed up for the Chichen Itza excursion but now wander if the Uxmal excursion would be better. Do you know enough about both to give me some information and details about the trip and perks so we can make up our minds which one to take?

    Thanks,
