    Alaska Railroad Excursions

Has anyone taken any of the rail excursions offered at the Skagway Port on the Alaskan Cruises?  We really want to take one and several options are offered, I'd love to get some feedback on which ones people might recommend (or not) and why.  Thanks to all who respond in advance!

I am leaving on the Spirit on May 21st from Vancouver.  We are booked on the rail tour.  Saw some pics of it and it looks spectacular.   This is my first trip to Alaska and my first cruise, so I don't have as many answers as I have questions.   But they tell me to plan on layers of clothing with waterproof windbreaker.  Not sure about boots/shoes, tho.

I was in Skagway Alaska last September and we did the White pass and Yukon Route Railway tour and it comes highly recommended.  You will really enjoy the history and the scenic ride.  Happy Cruising!!

TxSue - Did you happen to do the tour including Lake Bennett?  We're wondering if that tour is worth spending the whole day in port on, or if a shorter one and some time in town would be better.

No we rode the train up there and back.  I don't remember having the choice of a lake.  But I would recommend spending some time touring the town.  Its very interesting and some good shopping to be found.

    Happy sailing!!
