    Hawaii?

Out of curiousity, is Carnival considering a Hawaiian cruise that just cruises around the islands like NCL has?

The reason I ask, is that I was on an NCL ship last year, and LOVED the itinerary but hated the cruise line. The whole "Freestyle" cruising is a big crock in my opinion and thought it would be great if Carnival "The Fun Ship" had the same cruise but with the "The Fun Ship" persona.

I know you currently have cruise ships that cruise to Hawaii, but I'm not to fond of the at Sea Days and flying into one port and flying out of another... because that is expensive.

Thank you in advance for your response.

I believe that Carnival, or any other cruise line, would have to re-flag their vessel as a US ship and also comply with all US labor laws for the crew in order to do that.  That is what NCL had to do.  There is a federal law, (the Jones Act, if I'm not mistaken) that says foreign carriers cannot sail between two US ports without going to a foreign port, or something like that.  That is why cruises from the mainland to Hawaii sail from Canada or Mexico.  That is also why Caribbean cruises sailing from the US always sail to a foreign port first.  I hope that helps and I hope I'm not too far of base with that.

Agreed; that is our understanding of why things are the way they are as well..................

I also agree about NCL; we cruised on the ole Norway and after she had her horrible accident, we no longer sailed that line.

NCL has so many complaints regarding their Hawaiian Cruise

that AAA won't recommend them.  I cruised on American Hawaii

twice before it went bankrupt and it was one of the best cruises

that I had ever been on.  It is was unfortunate that after 9/ll

that they had to go under but NCL will never be able to replace

them.  We are looking at the Carnival cruise in the fall to Hawaii

hope to see ya there.  Vicki

    Vicki:

Come and join our motley crew leaving September 16 out of Vancouver on Carnival's Spirit! We have a great thread going over on CC and even a private Yahoo site to make plans and exchange information, buddy up for car rentals, excursions, etc.  There's always room for more!

I'm not Vicki but your posting caught my eye.  We are also on the Sept 16 cruise and would like to read the threads you mentioned on CC and yahoo.  Could you please provide the links??   Pardon my ignorance but what is CC??    I'm trying to get ideas for shore excursions especially (going on our own vs. with Carnival's excursions).  I've heard pro's and con's for both and trying to figure out what works best for us.

    Thanks!!!

As the other poster has already told you, CC is www dot cruisecritic dot com and we have a very active roll call going; I think I recall someone else in the mix is doing a B2B as well :)

If you would like to join the Yahoo site, send me an email (look for my email addy here in my signature) and put in the subject line that you found me on the Carnival chat site and I will send you an invite.  Oh, be sure and send it from the email address you would like the invite (and subsequent emails from the site) sent to.......you can change the emails location later, but you cannot sign on with a different email address to Yahoo; it has to be from the one where I send the invite.  I hope this clears it up???

    Pris!

You are the most prolific poster on all these forums.  I am jealous.

I have an excuse; I am Obsessive Compulsive over this Hawaii trip, and because it is a secret, I have alot of pent-up energy that I haveto channel, without tipping off the wife.  The wedding plans are pretty much wrapped up, and that frees up a little of my time now, also.  Anyway - I'm right on your heels.  Hey - how many posts do you need on these carnival forums to get the first block of rectangles to be shaded in on the blocks under your Avatar?? (little things like that feed my OCD!)

Who wouldn't be OCD over the Hawaii trip?  :)

I'm retired; that's my excuse; too much time on my hands and spend lots of it planning our travels.....I think I may have been a TA in another life cuz I'm always looking for the best deal LOL

I don't remember how many posts you need here to get that first block colored in, but I remember wondering the same thing when I started.........look at some of the other threads that have various amounts of posts and see how many some of them had.......on this thread, its really lo or really high and not much in between :)

     Mahalo :)

Well that is refreshing & encouraging.  I plan to travel much more when I retire.  Lately I was worrying, because alot of my colleagues retire, than come back to work as consultants or contractors........ I actually want to STOP WORKING when I retire.

    You have given me hope!
