    Roll call - JUNE 23 2008

Who else is coming? We are 6 ladies and 1 8 yr. old looking to relax and have fun.  We're from New Orleans and have made this trip several times or something close to it.  Anyone have questions about New Orleans let me hear from you and I will try to help.

My husband and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary and going on this cruise. We went on the same one last year- it went to Costa Maya and Cozumel though.

We will be in NO the day before. Any nice places to eat dinner? We ate at Shula's last year one night and it was great!

If you are staying downtown there are several good places in Harrahs and it is fun to go to.  Also in the Hilton is Dragos - they have really good food and delicious charbroiled oysters. Lots of places downtown and in the quarter. Be adventurous - try some crayfish, raw oysters at Acme, Ralph and KaKoos is good.  Have fun!

    Re: Roll call - JUNE 23 2008

My daughter, who is now grown, and I have booked this cruise.  Just a mother-daughter vacation...and I can't wait!  I've cruised before out of Galveston, but this will be my first time out of New Orleans.  Tell me, everyone...we are thinking of booking the dolphin swim.  I would rather be kind of close to the dolphins so I have heard this is better than the dolphin "encounter."    I had thought of booking the Deluxe Sail adventure (the catamaran ride and snorkeling?) but now am thinking we might really enjoy the dolphin excursion.  Any thoughts on this from you all??  I can swim but am not the greatest, and my daughter is a very good swimmer.

    Re: Roll call - JUNE 23 2008

I've never done the dolphin things but we always go to the park where it takes place - Chankanaab.  THe Dolphin exhibit is closed in and should be very safe.  We go there to swim and snorkle.  The park has many things to see and do if you wanted to stay after your dolphin swim.  The cab back to the ship is about $7-10. You can go on line and find out more info about the park and Dolphin experience. Type in Chankanaab National Park and a lot of info will come up.

    Re: Roll call - JUNE 23 2008

Thanks, Penny, for the info.  Chankanaab Park looks great!  We are counting down now, only 18 more days!  Anybody else planning this cruise on the Fantasy?  I've cruised before twice but it was in February, so I'm anxious to see the difference this time.  One of those was good weather, a little cool on deck, but pretty nice...the other one was too cold to lay out on deck, which is one of my favorite things to do on the ship during the day.  I know it will be pretty hot in Mexico in June, but it should be nice on the ship, I would think.  Does anybody else have information about what the shows will be on the Fantasy?  And what the daily activities will be on the ship?  I'm getting pretty excited...

Hi sorry to hijack your thread. I saw you were interested in Chankanaab park and the dolphin excursion. Below is a link to a slide show from the park. Its a great national  park.

Also, I have sailed the Fantasy 2 years ago when she was in FL. We really enjoyed her!

    Happy cruising!

    Hey Everybody,

We are cruisin on June 23 and I can't wait!  I am on the Internet every spare second, checking things out!  My husband, myself and our 18 yr old son and 21 yr old daughter will be taking a family vacation.  I am worried about son getting bored.  He is very active (Quarterback, Basketball and Baseball player, etc.)  Anybody else with teenagers out there!

    Bon Voyage!

    Hey,

I'm glad to see somebody else planning on this cruise--I'm starting to think it won't be very crowded on the ship by the looks of this blog, haha!  Sorry, no teenagers here.  I feel like there will be plenty of others, though, and hopefully he won't be bored.  That's the great thing about cruises, you can do lots of "stuff"...or you can do "nothing"...whatever suits you best!   I'm going with my 25-year-old daughter, just us two.  I'm also checking the internet constantly, and I've started planning what I'll be taking...I'm going to do another run-through and take out about half of the clothes I've packed!  I know I won't need all of them, it's always just hard to keep weeding them down.  The shoe "thing" is the hardest!

I'm so excited, and I'm hoping y'all are too!  Bon Voyage!

The wife and I (27 & 26) will be going on this cruise!!!

So, what do you guys have planned for the Port Stops?  Anyone have any good ideas or ways to save a few dollars?

Also, I will be driving from Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  Is it a straight shot, without any detours, to New Orleans via I-10?

This will be our first cruise! :)

Hope to make lots of friends!

    mje....

yea it is a straight shot til you get to new orleans.  you will be coming in via I-10 through slidelll and over the lake to new orleans east.  When you finally get into the city (you'll know...ie big building...superdome) I-10 will continue towards baton rouge and there will be a overpass exit for US 90 (Miss River Bridge)  Basically when you see downtown get all the way in your lefthand lane and you'll be good.  Get off at the Tchoup (last exit before bridge)

It looks like everyone has given you some great advice. I know before my first cruise I was on this site everyday all day long looking for info.  If you would like any other general information we just returned from a cruise on the Fantasy and posted capers and other info on our website:

    Re: Roll call - JUNE 23 2008

Okay, gang, only 2 days left!  We're almost there!  I'm so excited.  I've been looking at the Carnival website, and this "Cruise Talk" every day for the past week or so...picking up tips here and there.  Packing...taking something out of my suitcase...then (unfortunately) putting 2 things back in!!  Trying to figure how I'll have room for my bottled water and diet cokes...and my shoes...oh that is the worst!

Can't wait to see y'all on the Fantasy...maybe we'll be seated at the same dinner table!

    Happy sailing!  Wink
