ALaska Cruise - Which is best/

    HI,

     Which cruise is best?

The Glacier Bay or the Southbound/Northbound cruise?

The southbound/northbound does the Prince William sound

but is it as good as Glacier Bay Cruise

We lived in Alaska for 20 years and have always been told that Alaska Cruises are the best cruise to take! If you are interested in whale watching, sea otters, etc, the Prince William Sound cruise is the best. Mt Mckinley is a must see if it is included in that tour. The scenery in Alaska is truly breathtaking...one of the few natural wilderness areas left. We just couldnt take the cold temperatures and the darkness anymore. We live in Louisiana now, but I still miss the mountains! Have a great time!

Really a matter of opinion.  If you main goal is to see Glaciers then go Glacier Bay (which is only at the beginning and end of the Alaska cruise season).  For north and southbound to me it's a toss of the coin.  Some say the scenery builds as you go north - which is true the scenery is more dramatic farther north.  We choose Southbound because we wanted to spend a few days in Alaska and since I'm one of these people that swears by flying in at least the day before - we opted to do Anchorage and Seward first - followed by the southbound cruise.

You will see glaciers along the way - I'm "told" not as dramatic as Glacier Bay - but you will get to visit Sitka - very beautiful and not part of the Glacier Bay.  Also - there is always a risk that the bay will be too foggy and you won't even get in there (this is what I have read while researching my cruise).

Good luck in your decision and whatever you choose you won't regret it.

    Hope 2 Sea U Onboard - Cheryl

Definitely do Glacier Bay if you have a choice. Only 2 cruise ships a day are allowed in Glacier Bay We love it!!!!!!

I'm on the north bound 06/04/08 Spirit, hope its as beautiful as I hear. Family wanted to spend some time in Denali, so booked a cabin after the cruise.  Are there usually alot of young children on this cruise. My 5 & 8 year old granddaughters are coming along.  hope they have some one their ages to visit with. MattsMom
