How many first time cruisers?

What are the best shore excursions in Cozumel and Progreso?

We've been to Cozumel a few times so we are just going to make it a beach day at Paradise Beach (love the place).  We have done Tulum - through the ship as this trip involves a ferry and bus.  It was very interesting if you've never seen ruins.

In Progeso I think we are going to play it by ear.  Probably catch the little city tour bus for $2.00 each, do some shopping - maybe do one of the beach breaks.  They also have tours to the ruins through Auto Progreso.  I'm told they are right there when you get off the bus from the ship.

Can't wait - it's getting closer....... :)

 I'm going with lots of my family ( me, my mom & dad; my younger sister, her husband, their son & his new wife; their daughter, her husband & little one; sister-in-law;), for most of us it will be the first time cruise. I was going to try to mention everyone that is going but it seems like there will be over 16 in our group! I'm so excited! I work for a CPA firm and I sure am glad to be going on this trip, it was a long hard tax season!

My wife and I (both 55) are booked on this cruise. She is a fifth grade teacher and particularly interested in the Mayan ruins since she teaches about the Mayan culture. We want to get to the ruins at Dzibchaltun (Sp?) but I don't want to book an overproces Carnival excursion if it is not necessary. Did you indicate that there are tours available on a walk up basis at the port? I'd also like to knowe about getting to a beach after the ruins.....again I am a frugal traveler and don't want to pay for one of the excursions unless I have to. Thanks so much!

Here's the link to some of the tours offered through AutoProgreso http://www.autoprogreso.com/trips.html.htm.  Someone else posted a flyer that showed a combo tour for the ruins and the city - just a little more.  They may offer other combos (ruins/beach). 

Carnival's tour are more expensive.
