    Stabilizers on Celebration?

I read the post on "The Cruise from Hell" to the Bahamas,  which sounds like my worst nightmare.  I was specifically told by Carnival that ALL of the ships have stabilizers.  Does anyone know what the facts are? Since I asked the question before I booked our trip, I'd hate to think that I was intentionally lied to or that Carnival's booking agents aren't knowledgeable enough to answer questions concerning specifics on the ships.

All I can say is that when we sailed on the Celebration, it was great!  I felt a little queezy the 1st night but that was me.  I am prone to motion sickness and once I took Bonine, I was fine.  My husband did not feel any kind of movement out of the ordinary.  It was nice to be rocked to sleep.  (But the movement was not bad.)  When are you sailing on the Celebration?

My wife and I did (our first cruise ever) a seven day on the Destiny out of San Juan. I have to honestly say that I felt no rocking, swaying or movement at any time on the ship. Slept like a baby and even when eating in the buffet on the Lido Deck, we could not even see the liquid in our glass moving. Unless you run into some really nasty weather I do not believe you will have any problems at all.

    Hi Tjaway,

I don't know about anyone else's cruise cruise but mine last August on the Celebration was just fine. The ship moved so slow that we didn't feel much motion at all.  You will feel a little motion more than the larger ships but I guess if the ocean is ruff you will feel it on any size ship.

Our sail date was March 3, 2008 and I won't say that it wasn't a little rocky the first night at sea. We hit a storm and did get tossed around. I had never sailed before so I woke up a little white but took something for motion sickness and was up and having a good time within an hour or two. I think you have to expect some turbulance. Unfortunately the cruiselines can't predict the weather ahead of time. The captain of the ship couldn't apolgize to us enough for the rough first night...Oh yes, the Celebration has stabilizers...every ship with Carnival does.

    Re: Stabilizers on Celebration?

I believe CCL ships have what are called Bilge Keels instead of stabilizers.  Bilge keels are fix short long fins placed in various spots below the waterline.  Stablizers are hydrauliclly operate wings (active type) They are also more expensive and take up valuable interior real-estate.  Bilge keels do not do anywhere near as good of a job to reduce ship roll as stablizers.

All Carnival ships are equipped with retractable stabilizers. The exceptions were Mardi Grad, Carnivale, and Festivale. Tropicale to Dream are stabilized.
