    Catalina Island

We are sailing on Paradise in May and are looking for a tour to see the Dolphins.  Any suggestions as to which tour company we should take?  Which company has the most comfortable Zodiac or boat?  Can you see many Dolphins in early May?

What can we expect for weather in May?  Is the water warm?  Do you need a wet suit to snorkel?

Are there water craft to rent that will accomodate someone who has recently had a total knee replacement?  I have heard that you can rent kayaks but I think that would be hard for someone who cannot bend well or keep their balance easily.  Maybe a paddle boat?

I'm sure there are many places to rent golf carts but can someone recommend a place that has carts that can make it up the hill easily with 4 people and will rent for more than 1 or 2 hours?  Are the carts powerful enough to get up hill faster than at a crawl with that much weight?

Also, what is the location of Lover's Cove and is it easy to walk there from where the ferry drops you off?  I've check on Google and Local.live but Lover's Cove is not labeled.

The weather can be "iffy" in May, typically we have a marine layer that breaks late morning.  Dolfins are year round, it is the whales that are seasonal, and you will miss them.  As for the wet suit, it would wear one, water is cold here in the spring.

When you get off the tender there is a golf cart rental, not sure what size engine they have, but they do have 1/2 day rentals.  Have a great time.

We went to Catalina Island on 4/8. the weather was a little overcast and windy.  The golf cart rentals are a little spendy.  Most places are $40 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours.  They do have carts that will seat 4 or more people and all the carts are gas powered so they have plenty of power for doing the hills.

We also went on the zodiac raft tour.  I would suggest seating the person with the knee replacement towards the back of the raft facing the front because when the raft picks up speed the front end tends to lift up which causes all the people sitting on the sides of the raft to slide toward the back and would be stressfull on the knees trying to stay seated.

We did not see any dolphins on the tour but did see some sea lions and some other neat things.
