I am going on the same cruise the 27th june on Freedom. My friend and I would love to find some others to share the cost of getting to the Port in Rome and also to get to Florence. What is the cost of a car rental from Livorno. Let me know if this works for anyone. Thanks

     Jillca,

Go to cruisecritic.com and look up the roll call for our 6/27 th cruise. There are over 150 people on that site that are all going on the same cruise as you.

We have all been talking for quite awhile now. Come join us on the site and you'll probably be able to find someone to split transportation costs.  I have three in my party and we decided to take the train from Termini to the port.  It was really cheap and supposedly a nice ride.  We leave on the 12:40 train on the 27th

Thank you all for the great advice. I think I will also take the train, from Rome, I'm staying in a hotel right by that train station. I would like to find someone to share a ride or car to Florence. I'm not sure on the price, I will check with some sites. Thanks

What is the date of your cruise,

I am going July 9th Carnival... and trying to get more people interested in a tour in Florence.  We have 5 so far, and want to get 3 more people if possible.

Write me if this is the same cruise you will be on..And if you are interested..

I also checked the Carnival offer or doing it on my own.  I am curious about your statement that the transfers are included with Carnival at $400.  I understood from reading their pre-cruise vacation package that the rate was $200/person per night and that the transfers were $90 extra per person.  Also, they don't specify about the transfer to the airport from the dock on arrival and am wondering if it is included or not.  Before I do more research, would appreciate your comments.  Thanks Big Smile

Yes our rate was $400 per night for two people and it did include transfers from the airport to the hotel, bellboy tip and transfer from hotel to the ship. You must realize that I booked this in June of 2007 and I am sure many things have changed since then, especially the price. The only thing extra we paid for was tranfers from the ship to the airport, and last year that was $75 per person.I was very surprised by the rate we got and I tought it was pretty reasonable compared to trying to do it all privatly

    Hello everyone,

Great info you all have here, thanks!! My husband and I will be going next year and I am hoping that you will come back from your cruise and tell me lots of wonderful things!! :o)  like how you decided to get there... train or CCL transfer, hotel you stayed in and how you liked it, what excursions you took, etc.  I hate that my cruise is so far out so I will be living vicariously through you all! haha!

Have a wonderful time, and enjoy!

    Dawna~

Re: Transportation to Port of Civitavecchia (Rome, Italy)

    Hi Daniel,

I found your post and have a question for you that maybe you could be so kind as to answer when you get back from your cruise. I am interested in the train from Civitavecchia to rome for our trip in November. I am confused by the book within 60 days information that is posted on the italiarail site. Does that mean you must book and pay for the tickets 60 or more days  or  less than 60 days before the day you need the tickets? I tried to book 2 tickets for November 10th , 08 and it would'nt accept it. If it is less than 60 days before you need them why can't you buy them at the station when you get there?

I am hoping you will have some answers first hand after your trip. Have a great time,

    Vickie
