We are going 10/18 for 9 days to Acapulco, Ixtapa, Manzanillo and Puerta Vallarta.  I assume this is the same one you are on.  We just got back from Acap., Ixtapa and Manzanillo on Spirit 2/10/08 and it's a great ship.  Food was pretty good, service great and while we had fun on excursions, we tend to do city or cultural tours so depends on what you like.  We like the cruising part, rather than being partial to tours when in port.  We always book at least a balcony room and our Carnival travel consultant suggested, to save money for onboard use, like our massages, that we consider a room on deck 5 where the tender boats are level with the floor of the balcony, so we're going to try that this time.  We figure we don't spend much time in our room and as long as we have a balcony and can see out, we're good.  We will be totally center/mid ship and that's what's most important to me, who has a vertigo problem!  Let me know if this is the cruise you are talking about and maybe we can stay in touch until then....can't wait to go again!

    Hi Coyote5,

    Hi Coyote5,

Thanks for your response.  We're taking the same cruise but the 8 day from San Diego on Oct 27th.  San Diego is only a 2 hr  drive from our home in Pasadena, CA. We'll save on airfare to San Francisco (not to mention the extra port Puerto Valerta we've visit before). .  We too decided on a balcony cabin on Verandah deck across from the atrium.  It may be a little traffic but it's mid ship and not across from an inside cabin or beneath the disco.  I like the idea of peaking over the atrium rail to see what's going on.  We had an extended Balcony cabin on Princess and found that extra portion of balcony provided no privacy.  The upper cabin balcony guest tossed their cigarettes and other items onto that extra portion.  We rarely used that extra portion so we decided it's not worth the extra cost.  We too have vertigo issues and our last cruise (on Princess) the Dramamine had me too drowsy, so after Day 2 I stopped taking it and had no problem for the remainder of the cruise.  We’re thinking about getting the Patch (which last for 3-4 days) and ween the remaining days.  I think if you get the Dramamine in your system up front it remains for a few days.

Sorry we’re not on the same cruise.  But thanks for the tips.  We too enjoy the cruising the most and prefer to take the City Tours (to get the history and view the overall port city).  We do a little shopping (mainly to contribute to the city because visitor trading is their main source of income).  Then we can’t wait to get back to the ship.  We do all our world travel by cruise ship.  We like to take in and experience to culture of foreign cities but come back to the ship where we’re treated like Americans. Enjoy you cruise and maybe we can get some pointers on port spots before we leave on Oct 27.Mary

When we went to Cabo, Matzatlan and Puerto Vallarta last March, we did city tours on Matzatlan and PV and they were both great.  We ended up not getting off due to the tendering process taking so long in Cabo, but we'll be going again and will then.  We too enjoy the cultural and historical history that you get to see.  Matzatlan has a great cultural city tour that takes you to a show that is great and of course, like all, to a jewelry store.  Enjoy your cruise...we can't wait for ours!

Yes, my sister and I are on the 10/27 cruise to Acapulco.  We've been on several cruises (9) including Mexico but not this far down.  I've heard the City tours are great but it all depends on your tastes.  Definitely the divers.  The rest is up for grabs.

That's great...only 21 days to go.  Is this your first cruise?  My sister and I usually go together.  This is our 9-10th? cruise.  We love it and I've heard this ship is drop dead gorgeous.

Have you booked any shore excursions?  We've only booked the divers.

We have a fairly large roll call for this on Cruise Critic.. feel free to join in.

I think this is our 14th cruise .. and we have done the Mex Riviera but not these stops, although we have been to Ixtapa/Zhuantenjo before.

My husband and I are on the 10/27 cruise to Acapulco.  This will be our 3rd on Carnival.  We also did a Princess to Alaska in 2007 and plan a Princess to Hawaii in the near future.

Hi! How was your cruise? My husband and I are taking our adult kids and their spouses on the Mexican Riviera cruise Jan. 31, 09. We are travelnig on the Spirit. I havn't read too many bad things about that ship so I hope it turns out to be okay. I was wondering if it is possible when the ship docks, to walk to the cities, both Ixtapa and Manzanillo. Are the city tours worth the money? Is there 1 or 2 that you like better? What do you think?

We will be cruising on Jan. 31. When you get off the ship at Ixtapa/Zhuantenjo, can you walk directly to the town for shopping? We would rather do that than do the tour thing.
