    Formal Night

Does anyone have any info about the formal night/Captains Dinner? How many are there on a 7 night cruise? I went on a 7 nighter back in 2002 and there were 2 I think, but I dont remember. I am going on the Glory December 15 and need to know how many dresses to take.

    Re: Formal Night

I went on a 4 night cruise on the Sensation and we did not have a Captains Dinner only a formal night.  I guess it's each individuals preference.  We had some people complaining that they didn't go to the dining room that night because this was vacation and they didn't want to dress up.  Then others, the look on their faces, who were having formal pictures made, it was obviously sensational.

    Re: Formal Night

Thanks iluvcarnival, do you know about when they hold the captains dinner and the formal night? Is the captains dinner semi-formal or full blown? I have two dresses that are very nice but one is more formal than the other, so now I dont know which one to wear on which night!

    Re: Formal Night

I went on a 7 days cruise on Carnival Liberty. The captain's dinner was on the 3rd night (which was first day at sea) and the other formal night was on the 5th night. I would suggest you to wear the more formal dress for the captain's dinner since this formal night had a cocktail party before dinner and the other didn't.

    Re: Formal Night

I always wear a formal on the (first) Captains Dinner which is on the second night.  Then I save my other dress for the second formal night. This dress is a little loser fitting. I do love to dine at the specilty dinning area (extra 30.00) on an off night from the formal nights. Not as many people, and the service is very good. My first glass of wine is chosen by the Wine Master. This is my way of trying something new, and unexpected.

Key to my loving everything I bring to wear is nice tops and skirts for dinning. Many of us like to dine in the formal dining area, but truth be told most of us eat on the run, set in front of the tv in comfort all the time. So bring comfortable clothes keeps my evening easy, and not an uptight event.  Ok so wine helps out alot!

Shoes let's talk about shoes!   On my second cruise we had 15 ft. waves. One step to the left, two steps to the right. After 15min.s I went back to my room and put on my sneakers. But I looked good in my formal and my sneakers. Bring a lower dress shoe, and stick the dress shoe grippers on them. They will save you a trip to the floor!!!

    Have fun, dine well,

Yes a 7 day cruise will offer 2 fancy dinners.  We didn't get to meet the captain at the captains party with the line being soooo long.  Get there early to get in line if you really want to meet the captain.  Our cruise coming up, we plan to get there and wait around for about 45 minutes prior and see if we don't make our tails in to see him this time.  I got a plan Wink   lol
