    Ixtapa Island Get Away

My wife Nancy & I went on this Shore Excursion n January of 2005. We got onto a air conditioned bus for about a thirty minute ride to Ixtapa. We pulled into a dirt parking lot and went through a chain link gate onto a pier of sorts As we started walking onto this pier my wife grabbed me and pointed out that several of the boards were broken on the outside edge of the 2x4's that this make shift pier was made from. We made our way out to the end where several small boats were waiting. These boats were not tied to the pier and were bobing and weaving in the water and you had to time your jump into the boat Not for anyone who is handicapped or not in good shape. After getting into the boats we were taken out to Ixtapa Island. The Island is a game preserve so it was very clean. The resorts had every kind of food and drink you might want as well as snorkeling equipment. I rented some and went onto the back side of the Island to Coral Beach. If you stay by the rocky areas there were lots of fish and the water was very clear. Enjoyed it alot. We also bought a hand blown bottle of Tequilla that several people in our group had bought and finished off while sunning on the Island. There were lounge chairs and a covered eating area with hammocks. The beach was so clean and the water the lightest blue with light brown sand. The Island was wonderful and we both enjoyed the visit alot except for getting on and off the boats. They told us that they were in the process of building a new pier  to make it easier and hopefully is in place by now.
