Zip Line/Cave Tubing with Don - Easter Break

We are crusing on the Glory over Easter break.  We will be in Belize on Tuesday, 3/10 and would like to enjoy the zip line/cave tubing - at least my husband and son want to do the zip lining.  I emailed Don through his website and asked if he would be willing to give me an alternative tour while my husband and son do the zip lining.  Then, I would meet up with later to do the cave tubing.  He said that he could arrange for a tour guide to take me on a nature walk.  Is anyone else interested in this?  I thought Don was most accommodating to suggest this, but I really don't want to go alone on the nature walk.

Re: Zip Line/Cave Tubing with Don - Easter Break

Even if you have to do the nature walk alone you should do it. the nature walk is done on the zip line grounds. This is my experience with Don.

Took a cruise for vaca to the Caribbean, Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, Belize, and Cozumel, was a killer trip.
Best part was hooking up with Donald Ramirez, a private tour guide in Belize. If you have been on cruises to the Caribbean, you know that when the ship docks, 3000 people jump off and flood the towns, and buses going on "cattle tours". Not my cup of tea, to be crammed in a bus, then wait in huge lines to do whatever you are signed up for.
Don met us on the dock in Belize at 7:30 am. We made the first tender boat from the ship, but hit Belize at rush hour.....No problem Mon! Don zipped us put of town using back roads, we beat the masses, and were the FIRST folks to get to the Zip line rainforest canopy tour.
If you have never done a zip line, you need too! With proper equipment you are hooked up to steel cables, and "ZIP" through the treetops and rainforest to the next "station", big tree where you unhook/hook back up to the next zip line and then zing down the cable to the next tree. It was way too cool!
But the best part we got done just as the first of the busses from the cruise ship tours showed up, and the masses descended upon the tour.
Then we checked out the zoo, jaguars, tapir, and other neat animals......then it was off to Mayan ruins , alta un, I think it was called, about 20 miles out in the middle of nowhere, a Mayan city, was amazing!
Then he took us on a city tour, and showed us things you would never see on a cattle tour...then he got us back to the dock 45 min. before the last tender back to the ship.
Don was so well informed on the archaeology and history of the people of Belize, I was amazed at his knowledge, and abilities to give us an incredible day touring Belize.
If you are going to Belize, you need to hook up with Don for an amazing day...far from the cruise boat crowds. I am going to be putting up some pictures of the trip on my website later. Don"t just see Belize, see it with Don, a resident of Belize.

The reason I was going to do a separte activity other than the zipline is because I'm a little apprehensive because I'm afraid of heights.  So, I thought it best that I skip that activity.  What do you think?  Did you also do the cave tubing with Don on this trip?

Re: Zip Line/Cave Tubing with Don - Easter Break

We are also on the Glory cruise during spring break.  We'd love to do the zipline, but my youngest child is 8--I'm fairly certain that's too young.  But I'm with you--hate the "cattle runs" associated with shore excursions.  Any suggestions from anyone?  Wondering if I should do the "nature walk" with my 8-year-old, let the others do the zipline (hubby and children ages 12 and 14), and wondering if we could meet up somewhere?  And is my 8-year-old too young for cave tubing, too?

    Thanks,

    Tina

Re: Zip Line/Cave Tubing with Don - Easter Break

Tina:  My understanding of the zip line is that you have to weigh at least 90 lbs.  So, your 8 year old would probably not be able to do it.  I'm not sure if there is a weight or age requirement for the tubing.  You could look at the Carnival excursions to see if there is a minimum age or weight.  Don told me that he would arrange for a nature walk while my husband and son did the zip lining and we would meet up with them at the cave tubing.  I'm not sure I want to do a nature walk in the rain forest in 90 degree heat and humity, though.

    What do you think?

My brother and his family did only the zip line canopy tour with Donald in November and his 6 year old son was allowed to do the zip line canopy. according to Ben ( my brother ), as long as the horness can fit , you will be allowed to do the tour, But Carnival do not allow below age 10. The best thing is to get in touch with Donald. His email address is : zipbelize@yahoo.com

We're also booked with Don over Spring Break and he said my six year old would be able to do it.  I'm sure my six year old can, the only question is whether he will.

Re: Zip Line/Cave Tubing with Don - Easter Break

We did sign up for Don's zipline/cave tubing tour.  Can you describe the initial zipline hook-up?  Do you walk up stairs on a tower to the first station?  I'm trying to picture it in my mind.  I am really scared of heights, but I know I'll be sorry if I don't take advantage of this experience.  So, I would like as much info regarding the zip line as possible so that I can prepare myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  After the zip line we're going to the cave tubing.  I'm wondering if there will be a secure area to put our belongings.  Should we just bring everything in a backpack?  We would have different clothes for the zip line than we would for the cave tour.

Do we tell someone on the ship that we want to be on the first tender so that we can get to Don asap?  We've never been on a cruise before, so I don't really know what we need to do to get to Don early.

Thanks in advance for the information,

    Katie

My group did the zip line and cave tubing with Don a few months ago and the experience was great. We walked to the first platform and climb by stairs. you 8 year old will be allowed to do the zip line as well. don't miss out on this, I am sure you don't like regrets.

Hi Katie - we're going on the Glory also over Easter Break.  We are going with my family including two teenager and my parents.  My mom might be interested in the Nature Walk while my husband, kids, dad and I go on the zip line.  She has a bad back.  Do you know how long this walk is?  Is it very strenuous?  She will probably have no trouble doing the cave tubing.

Re: Zip Line/Cave Tubing with Don - Easter Break

Boo:  I don't really know anything about the nature walk other than Don offered it to me as an alternative to the zip line activity.  I'm so afraid of heights that I wasn't sure if I'd be able to do it or not.  I went ahead and booked it for me, my husband, and teenage son.   But, I'd like to keep my options open once I get there to go on the nature hike if I don't think I can climb the 7 flights of stairs and zip line 75 feet above the ground!!!!!  I'm sure Don can accommodate anything you would like.  I may end up going on the nature walk with your Mom.

    The experience was un-Belize-able.
