    Hi Dan & Betsy,

Jean and I are looking forward to meeting you guys also, I wish we were leaving in a little over a week, but three weeks isn't too long to wait, considering we planned this trip nine months ago.

    See you on board

    Fred & Jean

    Re: Freedom Sailing 5/1/07

Hi folks....my husband and I are going on the same cruise, Carnival Freedom sailing on May 1st.  We are from New Jersey and are looking forward to a wonderful time.  I hope we are not too late in making friends.  It seems you are all getting to know each other already.  I'm Dianne and my husband is Bob.  We will be flying to Paris on Sunday, leaving out of Philadelphia.  From Paris we will fly into Rome and spend the day and the next morning trying to get in some sights.  After the cruise, we will spend another day and a half in Rome before flying home to NJ.

This will be our second cruise.  For our 10th wedding anniversary, we went to Bermuda.  But with raising children, and tuition bills, we put extensive travel on hold.  Now, things are different and we have time for ourselves.  I hope we will be able to meet all of you.  Perhaps the ship/s personnel will arrange for people coming from the USA to get together, I hope so, anyway.

Please  let us hear from you before we sail.

    Dianne and Bob

    Hi there Dianne and Bob,

We are looking forward to meeting some nice people and having a great time.  My wife Betsy and I are leaving for our trip tomorrow and are just so excited that our vacation has already started.  We will be meeting up with Fred and Jean when we get to the cruise.  This is our first cruise so we didn't really know what to expect but we are already having a blast and we haven't even seen the ship yet.  We look forward to meeting with you and Bob on the ship as well.  We were thinking about meeting at one of the bars on board.  Please look us up when you get there.

    See you all in Rome!!!!

    Dan and Betsy

    Hi Dianne and Bob,

It's good to have another couple on board from the states that we can meet on board , I was beginning to think we were the only people from the east coast going on this cruise. I think it would be great for all of us to get together, leave a note at the purser's desk for Fred and Jean and Dan & Betsy with your cabin phone number and we will call you after the annoying muster drill is over, we will do the same.

9 Days and counting for us, looking forward to meeting you guys.

    Fred & Jean

    Re: Freedom Sailing 5/1/07

    Hi Deborah,

Just got back from Rome yesterday, what a cruise - be prepared to do alot of walking on these excursions, I actually lost 3 pounds, first time that ever happened on a cruise.

First of all, I thought the ship was beautiful and the staff who served us meals and took care of our state room were very friendly, more then any other curise we have been on, Carnival must be reading their customer's comments because two things that always annoyed me about these ships were showers that were not strong and the cheap hair dryers in the cabins that you have to hold the button down to work, these issues have been addressed on this ship.

I thought the meals were very good they even had a celiberity chef on board who prepared one of the meal selections evey night.

Now to my review of the excursions:

Venice - the Evening Gondla ride was cancelled due to rain the afternoon we arrived suggest you try this, the St Marks Experience I would pass on, the castle you get on the tour is a lot of walking up stairs and I was not impressed. Suggest you take a water taxi over to St Marks Square, and check the place out on your own.

Almulfi Drive and Pompi - this is a very good excursion the drive on the mountain roads is a little scary but you get over it, other then Rome I don't think there is level ground in Italy, your always climbing up somewhere. Pompi was interesting be prepared to take a lot of pictures, again you always walking up hill.

I will have to continue tomorrow, still trying to get over the 6 hour time difference, by the way the ship had more Americans then any other group of people the Canadans were the next biggest, then a mix of everyone else. Excuse my spelling errors.

    Take care for now

    Fred

Hi Fred - I'm so glad you had a great cruise!  I'm getting so excited and still have 5 months to go.  Thank you so much for the review!  I have been to Italy before and you are correct that everything is up hill, down hill or cobble stones - nothing flat and smooth!

Did you use Carnival Transfers to get to/from the airport.  We have booked a private tour company to tour Rome the day of departure, we arrive in Rome at 7:45 am - so the limo will take us all around Rome and then to ship.  But we still need to book transfers back to airport.

Did you get a chance to eat in the private supper club on the ship?  We  have eaten in there before on the Spirit and Conquest - wonderful and worth the extra reservation charge.

I can't wait to hear more!

    Deborah!
