New Carnival Splendor Uundergoes Final Sea Trials in Preparation for European Debut July 2, 2008

MIAMI (April 10, 2008) – Carnival Cruise Lines’ new 113,300-ton Carnival Splendor is shown here in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Sicily undergoing final sea trials.

Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri, Italy, the 3,006-passenger vessel – the largest “Fun Ship” ever constructed – is slated to debut July 2, 2008, with an eight-day voyage from Genoa to London (Dover) after which it will begin a series of 12-day Northern Europe cruises July 13.

Representing a new class of vessel, Carnival Splendor will offer a host of innovations, including a luxurious 21,000-square-foot Cloud 9 Spa. Adjacent to the facility will be 68 spa staterooms and suites – a first for Carnival. Its numerous family-friendly features will include an expansive two-level, 5,500-square-foot children’s play area and a water spray park.

Following its Northern Europe cruises, Carnival Splendor will operate a schedule of 12-day cruises to the Mediterranean, Greece and Turkey before repositioning to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for seven-day Caribbean departures. Carnival Splendor will sail a series of 14- to 18-day South America voyages, then be deployed to Long Beach, Calif., for year-round seven-day Mexican Riviera voyages beginning in March 2009.

Spring is in the air and that means that the launch of our brand new ship, the Carnival Splendor is only a few months away. With preparations well underway for the finishing touches on the ship’s onboard amenities we’re hard at work planning the splendid naming ceremony and inaugural sailing.

Much more than just a ship, the Carnival Splendor truly offers something for everyone. Our Cloud 9 Spa facilities are the perfect relaxation area and the expansive 5,500 square foot play area and water spray park are just the things that will keep the kids talking for months!

It's Holiday Time!

So now that everyone has had a chance to read the welcome message and start thinking about their splendid moments it’s time to share! In honor of the holiday’s we’re kicking the blog off with splendid holiday moments. Nothing can be more splendid than spending quality time with family, relaxing (say yes to vacation time), delicious holiday cuisine and giving a gift that puts a smile on someone’s face.

Everyone has a unique special moment to share and we’re asking for everyone to share in two ways. First, post a comment on the blog. Second, submit your story (videos and photos are welcomed) via email to be featured as a guest blogger. Once a week we’ll feature a guest story and photo. Additionally, we’ll be sharing some holiday greetings, wish list and more of our on board and shore side employees.

We all know that the best things in life aren’t really things…They’re experiences, people, places and fun. Carnival Cruise Lines was founded on this exact belief, that’s why we celebrate all things fun, every day. But, we realize that just enjoyable as these experiences are; it’s more fun when you share with family and friends. And, that’s what this blog is all about.

The big wigs at Carnival decided to pack all the best things life has to offer: delicious cuisine, luxurious spas, a wide variety of entertainment and quality time with loved ones all aboard our “Fun Ships” (especially the spectacular, upcoming arrival to our fleet, the Carnival Splendor). So, we figure what better way to prepare for the Splendor’s inaugural sailing than by coupling a preview of this splendid ship’s amenities with the splendid stories of the people we love the most- our guests!

Each week the blog will focus on a different “Splendid” topic. Members of the Carnival staff - both onboard and shore side – will discuss various topics. We’ll also highlight one guest story a week and will include a special page so you can share your story with us.
