Meet the Architect: Joe Farcus

Every time you step onto a Carnival Cruise ship, you are stepping into the vision of its architect, Joe Farcus. His passion for sketching ship designs started when he was young and eventually led him to pursue an architectural degree at the University of Florida. Soon after graduation, Farcus was tasked with redesigning Carnival Cruise Lines’ second ship, the Carnivale. Since then, Farcus’ relationship with Carnival has flourished as he has designed the interiors for 25 Carnival “Fun Ships” whose dramatic décor has become a hallmark of the company. Farcus also designed the unique winged smokestacks, which have become closely associated with the Carnival brand. Farcus has said that he creates each ship to tell a story. He starts with a central theme and expounds on that theme throughout the ship, from the atrium, to the dining areas and to the staterooms. It’s this focus on each individual ship’s concept that helps give each cruise its distinctive personality.Because of the success of his amazing and memorable cruise ship designs, Carnival will always entrust Farcus to put his distinctive design stamp on its "Fun Ship" fleet.

We're looking forward to seeing the next unique experience he creates with CARNIVAL DREAM, launching in October 2009.

I believe the next ship that you build should have a upper deck lounge over looking the sea and pool area.  Also, another great entertainment venue should be where you have broadway plays onboard as if you were in New York City, and you should look at a laser light show at night that corresponds with the orchestra playing poolside.

Everything sounds fantastic.  Cannot wait to cruise on this new ship! The design and locations of all the different areas sound well organized and fun.  Thank you for continuing to explore inovations for our cruising pleasure.  Sharon Past passenger

I dont believe rock climbing walls, surfing simulators and ice skating rinks belong on ships.  Eh-hem, Roayl Carribean.  That being said, I am delighted to see some major design changes with The Dream that I have been waiting to see in Carival.  The wrap around Promenade is amazing.  You will now pretty much get to take your midnight strolls and see amazing vistas such as the bow, the glow of the blue lighting off the ship's bow wake and much more without having to navigate several decks and find little know access to the bow.  The in-hull cabins and the two bathoroom staterooms are amazing.  Carnvial already has some of the largest and most comfortable staterooms of any cruise line.  This ship just kicks it up a notch.  I would like to see more restaurants though as some other cruise lines offer but the food is already amazing.  Did they take the cigar bar out of the design?  I sure hope not.  I cannot wait to even just see her in person let alone sail on The Dream.

I'm looking for a blog of people who will be traveling on one of the 3 European, around Italy cruises.  I'll be going with my four grandchildren and can't wait.  I'm also interested in the childrens programs and will they include information about the various ports we'll be in.

Thanks

Mimi
